I know defence starts in midfield but don’t see the defensive midfielder brought in either.
Start the season was amazing and exciting but if the teams we beat had not missed some sitters we would be bottom 6 if not worse. Still plenty of time to sort this out but defensively wise it will take the next transfer window which Acun won’t be happy about.

Technically, defence starts from the front.
Yes, the start to the season was exciting, but we were very very lucky with the results.
We have 11 more points than I thought we’d have at this stage, but the lucks long gone, we need to actually work for the results now. If Shota wants to stay, he needs to figure out, how to get these players playing as a unit, stop the rot & keep the ball, not with the back 4, but actually look like they have some sort of skill to actually stop conceding & start winning.

Good point, and just a further part of the current problems.
Our pressing (from the front, and then from midfield) has all but stopped, as we just don't have those sorts of players at the moment. Maybe the idea of the style of signings was the 'you score 3 we'll score 4', but we simply aren't that good at the moment for that (not that it's realistic anyway).
But still, that doesn't explain why our defenders have turned to **** (over exaggeration for effect) and have been getting so badly mugged recently.

something has gone very wrong. I was at QPR are we were second best in every area of the pitch. Defence is shaky & not operating as a unit, we are powder puff in midfield & teams just cut straight through us. The final ball to the forwards is poor & doesn't reach the intended man. This carried over into the Stoke game. Yes we have players out injured but the manager still has to put the best team at his disposal out on the pitch & prepare them for the game. If he feels the players can't win the game then he has to set them up so they don't lose the game. We are getting hammered at present & I fear we are onto a 3 or 4 goal hiding at Swansea. I don't see how Shota is going to turn this around, he just doesn't have the experience to do it. He's losing the fans (booed off against Stoke) & it won't be long until he loses Acun's backing .

Still a chorus of 'averladze' from the fans in the ground in the second half.

It's early days for this team. I accept we need to stop leaking goals the way we are otherwise there will have to be a decision made sooner rather than later, but I think it's ridiculously premature to be calling for his head at the moment.

See we're we are with a couple of games to go before the World Cup. If there does need to be a change, then that seems the sensible time to be making it with 4 weeks break and more than half the season left.

Probably more because of the limited songbook rather than total commitment MO..... I've thought for long enough that "Ilicali" should be the song.

I agree with orange

This thread was made as a joke after we beat Peterborough, but realistically, it’s now more of a real thread.
Shota should have gone at the end of last season, it’s a failed experiment, it’s time Acun woke up & realised it before the inevitable relegation battle kicks in.
We’ve got rid of managers in the past, we’ve gone on to better things, Molby, Parkinson & to some extent Slutsky.
I like Shota, but unfortunately I don’t see him getting anywhere no matter how long we give him & how many players come back from injury.
Saturday will see us slip further down the league when Swansea beat us.
I’ve said before, I’d love Shota to make it, I just think it’s too much for him.
Personally I've never liked him. Complete and utter bellend imo

I'm in the camp of not getting on Shota's back yet, he has been dealt a tough hand with injuries, just when Tetteh and Oscar were starting to gel that went pear shape and Allahyar is a big loss. Until players are up to speed and others back from injury, I don't think Acun will be drawn into making a change, but like most things TWT.
Do you think despite the injuries, we have a better match day squad than Terrys this time last year?

i don’t particularly want shota sacked but we dont look any better on the pitch

We have a better squad...we look worse at times than we did last year.

Is this idea that we have a better squad than last year, down to the fact we now fancy named players from fancy clubs?

Are they better because they cost more?

I'm not seeing any proof that they are better.

I've said this loads of times, but I think we need a couple of good scouts.

It can be done. How do you think we picked up players like Andy Dawson and Ian Ashbee?

Without checking back through all the team line ups (so happy to be corrected), and of course allowing for the additional injuries, I think we looked better balanced when Alfie was playing in the DM role. I know that means either Seri or possibly Slater wouldn't start, but frankly our midfield looks like they ought to be waving traffic through at times. I have never bought into the size/height argument on here, but I think we've been bullied off the ball way too much at times. I sincerely hope Shota can sort this ... and soon! Unusually for me, I feel genuinely nervous about the Swansea game.

I would say we have a better squad, but as yet hasn't got the grips with the championship for various reasons. Last season we had a settled squad and just survived, this season so far we have a lot of strangers that need to get to know each other.

A bit early to judge, five of our new signings haven't actually made a single appearance for us yet.

They're night and day better. You can tell just by watching them. The problem we have right now is poor results and poor performances, in my opinion due to shocking tactics. If anything, the players letting us down the most are generally the players we've retained. I'm hoping that changes with some more positive tactics and allows all of them to be more cohesive together.

I think the only new signing anyone could judge poorly at the moment is Figs, but I don't think he ever intended to come here and play the ball out from the back in this way. To say the 'marquee' signings we've brought in are worse than what we had before is well wide of the mark. Especially with 5 yet to make an appearance as well.
