What a beautiful game. Reading were ****e but we were superb. I've said it before but I love reading these threads through after the game knowing how it turns out.

I just can't believe people think Alese was at left back. 3 at the back with 2 wing backs all night.

The only goal I likened to Clarkes tonight was Gabbiadini away at Man City in 1990, our relegation season. However my memory is not what it was. <laugh>

What a night.

i know the 3rd goal wins but i think when people that were at the game see the 1st goal from the 'side on slightly behind the goal' angle they will appreciate it a little more...have watched it several times and from the angle he was at and where the defender was there is no way he should have got that ball in the net.

This is fast becoming my favourite ever Sunderland team.

There's so much talent in the team, they all work so hard and they're bold in the way they play.

It's so entertaining to watch and we know that no matter the opposition, we will try and take the game to them.

That last line is everything mate - will get great backing from the support because of it.

With Simms, LND, Ballard and Cirkin to come back as well. In a really good place for a newly promoted side, imo.

young Clarky is going to be a legend here mark my words, the lad has a touch of class combined with sheer magic
Watching it back now. Alese really looks ok doesn't he? :emoticon-0100-smile . What a squad we could end up with here.

And yes I think Clark is just one of those special players.

How on Earth have we come so far after all the mess.

Slept on it and still buzzing from last nights performance. It was an absolute joy to watch.

Then you look at who's missing and can come back in the team, who's not even making the bench and it gives you huge cause for optimism. There's going to bumps along the way but performances like last night make it all worth while

Last night's was very good. I expected reading to come out fighting second half but our tempo and decisions with the ball was superb. Gooch at fullback has even surprised me given its a step up to championship. The change of shape due the injury helped us even more, the fluidity of the front 4 meant that reading defenders didn't have a clue who and when to pick up which allowed the wider players to dominate and attack space.

Very good.

I alluded to this earlier, we've got to keep picking up the
Wins which keeps the pressure off the manager and this young squad.
Were not going to get positive results every game but as long as we keep picking up points here and there and we stay away from the bottom half dozen or so in the league then we'll have a good season.
If we finish top ten then that will be a magnificent effort.

We played very well last night, despite not having a centre forward, and other teams in the Championship will have 'taken note'

All 3 goals were very good, and the third one will be one of the best team goals that we'll see anywhere this season.

Paul Ince said in his post-match interview that it was like they were playing Barcelona . . . . a slight exaggeration (possibly) but this was an example of 'the beautiful game' and it was S.A.F.C.

Conclusion . . . . we've got now't to whinge about

On a note of caution...

Mowbray mentioned we have small good technical players that lack physicality and was particularly worried at free kicks and corners.

Last season we 'muscled' out of a couple of games...

If we can move fast and get out passing right we should be okay?
You'd assume Wright will come into the team on Sat for that reason - apparently he missed the game due to his wife giving birth? We definitely need a couple of bigger lads in the squad come January as the teams lower down will absolutely try and bully us in lieu of playing real football
