This is from a conversation you were part of in February, which didn’t age well: https://www.not606.com/threads/new-next-manager-feb-2022.398620/page-226#post-15605400
this. Even if Mowbray is just one year - if he’s removed at end of season with us in the championship still, job done. we will have much more choice and room to manoeuvre in the summer as well. Especially if mowbrays departure is planned in advance (no idea if it is).
So you have said a good few times now. Who would you have on his place. I have no idea if it’s a good thing or bad to be honest. But his stats are the same as snake belly Neil, so can’t be that bad
so the established championship manager with a reputation for bringing on youth players is less of a fit than the league one manager who’s supporters hate him because he plays all their players out of position and can’t get a side with the squad they have out of league one?
Some of them do but sometimes going for a safer bet is the right thing to do I was def intrigued about barry n manning but big risks as stepping up managing a club like ours is huge. At least mowbray has some experience at big clubs
much safer to give a chance to a manager like Manning or Barry once our squad is stronger and established in this division. the time just isn’t right to go for a long term exciting option, as much as all of us would like it. Any long term exciting option with experience in the championship will be looking at premier league clubs, not us.
How could we have progressed us? He hasn’t progressed Sheff Weds and their fanbase hate him and don’t know what his plan is.
We are in a good position to take a slightly bigger risk, Barry is very good worked with top players look at other teams they took a risk QPR with beale, Ipswich with the guy from United, Blackpool with Critchley, Wigan with richardson, mk with Manning
All those teams were established in the division they’re in when taking those risks. All the guys you mention (except Darren Moore) would be good appointments if we had a squad that was strong enough to more or less guarantee survival. We don’t. Yet. But we should in 12-18 months if we can consolidate here
What a feckin shyte underwhelming appointment. He will NEVER have my support. Surprised so many are fawning over him. We will be looking for another manager before Xmas. Bart
Would of wanted a young manager I.e manning etc just like Potter by Brighton not some unemployed has been. Where is the ambition by the club, is that too much to expect?.
I agree, we are new to the championship with a young squad so think someone like Mowbray is the right decision
see with 3/4 players coming in we are are strong enough squad imo, time was right to take a slightly bigger risk and show a little bit of ambition to take us to that next step like the guys above (minus moore since you arent a fan)
It's a shocking appointment but people are just trying to convince themselves otherwise. If this happens Speakman needs fired when it goes tits up
