Odds on now Other candidates drifting fast. Might mean nowt but a lot of movement in the betting for him this morning.
I think it can differ mate, across different clubs. Generally speaking a club will have a style of play and will ask all levels, from probably u16 upwards to go down that route. It means your academy has a better chance of producing players for your first team, which is a top 3 aim at all clubs. That doesnt mean everyone has to play 433 every time, but it does mean they should always look to play through the thirds, or with a strong press, or whatever their style is, in whichever formation. That is often set by a director of football. They will ensure all coaching teams from u16 upwards understand and are supported in that. They will also give guidance to the recruitment team, and work with them on a player profile for recruitment purposes. So, if we are a possession based team, playing through the thirds, you will value technical ability, awareness and passing ability highly, alongside the physical attributes you want. Then the clever data guys do their bit, then the scouts, then the coaches before any offer is made. The head coach is really a first team role, fitting in with the overall style. He will be part of the discussion though about the style, and how it should be tweaked and improved, more than any other coach in the club. He will also, if it works properly, will be very active with u23 coaches working on the pathway. It is a lynchpin role in the club, as much as anything because they are the face of the club, but also they are the ones whose results are key (u23 coaches arent judged on results, they are judged on players getting to the first team). When it works well the head coach and DOF and head of recruitment are in tandem at all times, and on the same page. I think it was why LJ got longer than some wanted, because he was really onboard. Anyway, rambling from me. I am no expert either and obviously nowhere near as experienced or good as top end coaches! Just some observations and opinions.
Tbf Sky announced him more or less on Saturday, put the market back on this morning and had him at 14’s and everyone has lumped on. Idiots. someone will be getting sacked.
Can't you apply for a job at the club, you clearly know your stuff and the board would gain a huge ITK
In betting you have to try and find the value or bets that are overpriced. Various outlets came out and said he was going to be our manager over the weekend. To price Mowbray up at 14s, then 3s is just idiotic and therefore overpriced. Most people who seen him priced at that would have backed him just because he was massively overpriced from the information that was on offer.
Those focused on the odds; let me explain how it works. He’s been rumoured to be our number 1 target for the past 48 hours, had Sky saying he’s set to be appointed, The Athletic said he’s the favourite, and was apparently at the AOL. As soon as the odds come up, people would have bet on him ASAP. Especially when he’s over evens. Big influx of bets has meant they’ve shortened the odds very quickly. That’s all it means. No idea why he started at 14/1 though, someone is getting a bollocking for that blunder I reckon.
Don’t know enough about Barry to say 100% but all my instincts say we need a strong character with experience.
Hope not On a personal level i hope I win the win the money, hope we don’t appoint him as a SAFC fan.
