Baffled.

Just seen that Speakman interview there and he doesn’t come across well at all to me.

I reiterate what I said yesterday looks to me like he should be separated from the non-player recruitment side (which he’s been brilliant at).

I mean, owners are billionaires why not gan ****ing loopy and offer Graham Potter a pot of gold?

I know we won’t, and he wouldn’t come but our potential v Brighton is mental and he’s one of the very best in the business.

Im aware I got laughed at for suggesting him last time round but we a level up now…

Barry is definitely an interesting one. Was assistant to Cook at Wigan also

Yeah, he seems to have done an apprenticeship at a few different places. I wonder if his intention to coach at the world cup with Belgium suggests this is maybe a year too soon for him. Having contacts with Belgium, Chelsea and Lampard at Everton might well help on transfers/loaning players though (probably not this window). If Lampard and Tuchel rate his work so highly, they'd likely be happy for their young players to get that kind of tutelage.

He seems a less likely choice than Mowbray or Manning to me though.

When Judas was appointed I was underwhelmed, he done the business. Whoever comes in will be given a chance, they are inheriting a good side and won’t have much transfer business to deal with so they can concentrate on the team. I don’t want Mowbray but he will get my backing if it’s him

Don't get me wrong but I could see Mowbray working if we had him for this season, so we could sort out a permanent replacement if that's what we need to do.
I know he's as dour as Moyes but I don't get cos he's managed at the Boro that should excluded from coming here!
He very experienced and does play on the front foot when he has players capable of doing so which we have,
I thought the media has jumped the gun over AN going which I thought wouldn't happen in a month of Sunday's so them saying Mowbrays coming might still be right.
Who knows.

Devils advocate here.

What if KLD and Speakman have collectively decided Speakman is out of his comfort zone with first team stuff - and so Mowbray would come in as Director of Football - focusing on first team and recruitment (but under the same philosophy).

Speakman remains as technical director - looking after academy, coaching quality, youth recruitment, data and analysis etc

I know football manager is just football manager - but KLD is a massive FM fan. And on FM that’s what those roles do. And it always seemed weird that Speakman was “Technical Director” and not “Director of Football”

And it would work in so many ways. Mowbray and Harvey already operate hand in glove. And Speakman gets to stay and do what he’s best at, which I think is important considering the club seems to be built to his vision

Ha. I just thought the exact opposite re Speakman. Was expecting a car crash interview and I thought he came across well.

After we move on from AN and the it fully sinks in we will have Mowbray as manager....dear god!!! All the great work done by the new regime to get us to a position where we are now and had pretty much all the Sunderland faithful behind them will be undone, by many ,with this terrible appointment. Other than Mowbray bring available, cheap and almost certainly the ultimate yes man....what possible benefits are there?
There will be only one man to blame if Mowbray gets the job....Speakman.

The same can be said of Davisons side of the club, he needs help with specialist people for retail and commercial etc. It makes sense that the off the field 'entourage' would need to grow once promotion was secured. Looking at the likes of City and Liverpool the amount of staff they have is mental so it would make sense that going from L1 to Championship we would need to do similar (ish <laugh>).
