This is a great signing imho. Nearly 250 appearances in the Championship. Bags of experience. Can play CDM, RB, LB and wide midfield. Very versatile and experienced. Redresses the ginger balance as well
I don't know anything about him apart from what's on here, but he would appear to be a very good signing, if true
Was great with Brentford, destined for bigger things, then it went a bit pear shaped. Let's hope he regains his mojo at HCAFC. Good player if it comes off.
I was told by an exCity apprentice that Askew was referred to as Billy Big Bollocks on account of his unfeasibly large testicle bag. If you’d known that when you chose your name?
Brum fans on Twitter don’t rate him though. Say he’s weak, doesn’t tackle or track back and his only attribute is passing sideways or backwards. Very strange signing for us in the grand scheme of things. We are crying out for a physical ball-winner and a creative number 10 and we’ve signed another short-arse with all the physicality of an empty Quavers packet blowing in the wind who is scared of passing forward.
We'll see. Wouldn't be the first departing player from any club to be declared ****e on the Internet once it becomes apparent they're leaving
He could certainly pass a ball forwards at Brentford. Birmingham are maybe just not playing to his strengths.
Hopefully he’s got something about him, I wouldn’t always take notice of what fans say, just look at what some on here say about some of ours. A lot depends on if he fits into a system they are trying to build. In all honesty though I haven’t got a clue on how good he is. I just hope he is been added to make a real difference and not just a squad player.
True but I tend to take notice of what fans say about their outgoing players to get a sense of their weaknesses and strengths. Brum fans on Twitter seem happy at the prospect of him leaving and say he’s slow, weak, doesn’t tackle/not a ball-winner and prefers an easy pass than anything creative. I’m not sure what they actually consider his strengths. I suppose he’s fine for cover but it’s an underwhelming signing and still doesn’t address the lack of a ball-winner and creative number 10 at City.
From Wikipedia: "Style of play Although Woods' favoured position is as a central midfielder (being dubbed "the ginger Pirlo" by the Shrewsbury Town supporters),[50] he can also play in a variety of positions in defence and midfield.[51] During the 2013–14 season he demonstrated his versatility by also playing right back, on the right side of midfield and at left back.[52][53] In January 2015, FourFourTwo named Woods as one of the 10 best young players in the Football League.[54] The magazine reported that he demonstrates "an ability to play a range [of] passes, as well as easily creating space for himself" and quoted Shrewsbury Town manager Micky Mellon as saying "he's the first player on the training pitch and the last off. He's a terrific kid and has some unbelievable ability" Sounds a handy player
That makes sense, Whiteheads must be the most consistently good chippie in the area - it's our furthest ride for chips but it's always worth it.
