I think we were and still are interested in Iversen. It seems to me that Leicester were aware of the potential exit of Schmeichel so have held on to him, but it's clear that Ward is first choice and if Dubravka comes into to compete, then Iversen will be available by the end of the window.
I like your thinking mate. A keeper still remains the most important position on the pitch for me. Cloughy had that right. We have a good un in Patterson I reckon, but I still think we need a really strong backup to push him and to educate him. Bass has the feel of a 3rd choice to me. Full backs / wing backs have become so important now. Real running athletes. In Cirkin we might have a future England player, one on the right might be key. Another player I think is massive now in the modern game is the deep lying playmaker. Someone who links the centre halves to the number 10. Dan Neil has all the attributes, whether someone else can help him whilst he is young is a question. They cost the bloody earth though. Hendo is a prince in that role, maybe he fancies 'one last dance'...
I think he is ruthless / selfish enough for that to be honest. He strikes me as a manager with no room for emotion and if he doesnt feel he has to tools he wont let his reputation be tarnished. Right now his stock is sky high and when it comes to sacking season it wouldnt be the biggest surprise to see clubs like Norwich or Watford press the button early. I bet the 1 year rolling thing is at his behest.
There's no chance he would do that. But it's not even a reasonable complaint when the club is one of the top spenders in the league this summer.
I was quite happy with the squad previously but I think the cup game showed that our depth is lacking. It was a poor performance in general and I'm sure some of them are capable of more, but the midfield is lacking massively. We'll be in trouble if any of those lads have to play regularly at Championship level. We knew we needed a striker before last night but playing 2 wingers up front emphasised it. Diamond was the bright spark though and some of his runs were very good. It did make me wonder whether he could be converted and used as our 4th striker this season. The other bright spark was Hume. I'm confident he'll be in our first XI consistently by the end of the season. If we continue to play with wing backs, we need more cover on the left as well I think. Plus maybe another CB.
We have to be patient and retain a trust in KLD , Speakman, Alex Neil , and the recruitment team to identify and sign the right calibre players we require . In the past we have panicked and bought for the the sake of buying with disastrous results , the measured approach we have seen in recent times is in stark contrast to the scattergun approach we are used to - a welcome change, keep the faith !!!
The lad desperately needs a change of scene and to focus on his football. There’s a cracking player still in there I’m sure.
The lad has done a lot of good away from football, not like his off the field antics are getting pissed!
Rolling contract remember. The weakness of the team in some areas was my concern going into the start of the season and still is. Clock is ticking, I think we'll be OK by the end of the window, but we don't know what AN was promised. We shall see.
