The three promoted teams all look pretty weak to me, the 2 teams who finished below us last year have both lost their best player(s), and one has even less forward options than us with DCL injured, Brentford don’t look particularly good.

We haven’t lost anyone of any real note (Broja the only one in my view and wouldn’t call him key or irreplaceable). The only real concern for me at this moment is playing the formation we are trying. I have no doubt that we will survive if we played the 4-2-2-2 every game even if we made no more signings (cheers Tom). It is too early to really know whether this 3 at the back was being developed because we have a very hard start so wanted to try and be more defensively solid, obviously it failed against Spurs
I guess the concern some people are having (albeit after only one game) is that Bournemouth and Leeds have already won and Fulham looked good against Liverpool. But whether they are bang up for it in every game remains to be seen. That was opening day at home to one of the top teams.

Incidentally the teams that Bournemouth and Leeds beat are also worth looking at. Villa really underperformed last season and something odd is happening at Wolves. I guess a formation change because I can’t understand them loaning out Coady

Part of the issue is the season has started early and there is still a lot of activity to happen. And we also did a lot of work early and the gap is frustrating people. Especially since ideally we would have filled our biggest gap in that early activity (striker)

We played Spurs away, in the top 5 hardest games of the season. Home to Villa and Wolves are definitely in the “circle that as a possible win” for any team in the league.

I get that we showed continuation of the second half of last season in the Spurs game. But remember the season before? Where we were **** for the second half of that season as well? The main trend then was we would look decent in the first half then come out like a bunch of clone ****s and play **** and lose. First game last season we battered Everton in the first half, going in 1 up, then came out like a bunch of clone ****s and got battered and lost 3-1.

It’s way too early to be overly concerned after losing to Spurs, there is a lot of **** in the division this year (us included)

I don't disagree. Just trying to rationalise some of the reaction.

It is quite baffling. The transfer thread on saintsweb is a curious mix of begging for centre backs really won't improve us (Shane Duffy and Issa Diop I have seen) and also bringing up players that are above our level both for fees and the other clubs that are rumoured to be interested (Cody Gakpo)

It seems like there are some deals that are contingent on other transfers. I mentioned a while back that it is odd that Liam Delap's loan hasn't been finalised yet. Especially as McAtee's has been. Also there are rumours of Chelsea having a more significant revamp of their attack - even now once the season has started. Ziyech, Pulisic and CHO all not rated. Not sure where that leaves Broja or who they want in.

Has to be a obligation, surely. If he was to leave I wouldn't be against Braithwaite on a free and putting as a massive fee for a big big striker.

Can’t judge a window before it’s finished, but …
Depends on the fee and which 2 (TWO!!) strikers we bring in after but this just seems like terrible business. There is a reason a fair few other teams around us want him - he is a decent prem striker!

Bloody hope we have an incredible final couple of weeks as we are heading down at this rate.
