It's early days with this group of players, so yes we need to let then gel a bit, but I really aren't sure if Shota is the man to do it, he came in promising a fast attractive attacking style of play, this is the complete opposite, there just doesn't seem to be a game plan which the players can buy into. Pass across the back 3, bypass midfield then hoof it up the field, its got me completely mystified here. 3 games in, 3 goals, one a penalty, one a massive deflection and one an own goal. Certainly doesn't back up what he was promising, and it isn't like we are being unlucky, we just aren't playing well.
He was our best player for 2 seasons running, also our top assister and directly involved with 25% of our goals last season. Notwithstanding he’s the kind of player who will still put in an individual performance when the rest of the team is a bag of **** like tonight and maybe turn it round. We don’t have that sort of player in the squad now. Letting him go for peanuts was a huge mistake and it’s pretty obvious we are far worse off without him.
Is anyone really bothered about going out? As I said before, I feel sorry for the travelling fans. But as usual, there were quite a few Championship sides going out. Does make you think about the intention. Also, he chose to take off players who were performing well and keep those who weren’t, on. It could be argued that it was a message to those lads still on the pitch to turn it around. Obviously, they couldn’t. And that proves we don’t have the strength in depth, hence the need for more signings.
I’m underwhelmed by the style of football too. We suffered McCann’s turgid football last year and the excuse was always that McCann was operating on a shoestring budget and we couldn’t play any different with the players we had. Well, now we have better players under new ownership with a new manager who supposedly wants to play attacking, exciting football with lots of chances but we’re stuck with 3-5-2 and lucky if we get more than 1 shot on target all game. I know the new players need to ‘gel’, but we’re barely creating chances.
We didn’t even play turgid football under McCann towards the end either. That Blackburn performance first day after the takeover was the best I’ve seen us play in years. Me thinks Shota has been brought in to do what Mr Chairman wants
I'm pretty certain Mr Chairman doesn't want his investment playing like a bag of shyte, with no plan or direction.
Get your point but I don’t see how based on anything Shota has done as a coach he thought he was a worthy replacement
We have to wait until the end of the window. The biggest concern tonight is just the lack of depth. I thought Figs, Tufan, Tetteh all looked good as did Greaves and Jones. Elder didn't have a bad game either and Cannon's 2nd half was good. There's just not many players we can actually rely on
Shota's interviews become more eccentric, I half expect a Cantonaesque seagulls and trawlers meandering... Hope he / it turns around, early days, blah blah blah...
This result isnt a concern, bigger teams than us have lost to lower opposition. The real concern is in the 8 months Shota has been manager, we're yet to see a clear idea of how he wants us to play. We all know we've got a few new players and it takes time to get them to adjust, but adjust to what exactly? I just dont see any style or familiar patterns of play.
Shota still has plenty of time and 4 points from 2 games is a solid start. Personally I need to be won over by him as I didn’t think his record prior to joining us was all that convincing, but trusted our new owner saw something in him. And while he treated tonight like a pre-season friendly, it only achieved another mark in the ‘not convinced’ column of the doubters tally sheets.
We looked a fair bit better when switching to a back four, but the full backs seemed to not heed the change and were still bombing forward. I think Fleming can't come back soon enough.
Definitely need to be using that entire loan allowance on tonight’s performance. There’s better young lads in the academy than Covil too…
8/10 games after the window closes should be the line in the sand not 3 games in with a half fit and unfinished squad. I know we seem to love to be negative, expect the worst and pull every player and manager to bits but ffs some of the bed wetting is laughable. We are at the beginning of a HUGE transition period. We are going to need another 2 windows after this one for it all to come together IMO. Let just b patient, after all it could be worse...... We could still be under the Allams
because I don't think he knows himself. He's out of his depth & now realising what a really tough league The Championship is. I've said it from day one he is not the man to get City into The Premier League & then keep us there. He may be a decent bloke but he's not a promotion winning Championship manger & never will be. Doesn't matter how many players Acun gives him the outcome will be the same.
You literally called Tufan a vanity signing a fortnight ago. Shota has taken a small club to Europe, he's clearly half decent. We aren't going to start creating until we've got some creative players in the side.
