I think Dajaku will take time to settle but I really think the lad can play at PL level.

He hasn't had a great start and would benefit from game time if he can force his way in.

Great for the bench as he's adaptable.
Agree with this - I think he has the potential to be be brilliant but not sure if he'll get the regular playing time needed to help him achieve that.

Barcelona are in the state they are in because they have been indulged for years. Madrid too.

Barca have sold 25% of TV rights for twenty years to US private equity funds, and these Americans will have their money. Barca were given dispensation , along with the two Madrids and Bilbao I think, to avoid constituting themselves more like a PLC. Hence more indiscipline. They are also in receipt of a whopping " loan" from the Catalan gov. Ditto Madrid from the Spanish government.

All the money is gone. They are both well over a £1bn in debt and still spend like a drunken sailor whose bet has come up.

They are betting it all on the ESL, which will rear it's head again next year when the ECJ rules in their favour. The Premier League's craven and venal administrators will then take their little bit, and we'll be back to where we were 18 months ago .

No sympathy at all for Barca or Madrid, and every player should be paid every penny.
Agree totally and I would still ban them from competition if this euro league comes back again it is a hideous idea and takes away all competition. All it does is line the pockets of the big euro clubs

Here's a random list of out of contract center backs that I reckon are within reach.

Out of this list I'd be intrigued by Barbet and Nordtveit. Especially as Nordveit can play cb and cm (although he's getting on...) but he brings experience.

Barbet has played 86/92 championship games in the last two seasons as a LCB for QPR. He'd be PERFECT.

The others all have their merits.

  • Sean Morrison - 31 (was Cardiff's captain but dropped out of side last year, not sure why)
  • Alfie Mawson - 28 (was at Fulham and on loan at Bristol City last year. Bit older than our normal profile but kinda fits the profile in that he's a previously very highly rated player still at a good age who has fallen off the radar a bit)
  • Michael Hector - 30 (another one who was at Fulham and fell down pecking order as they bought their way to promotion)
  • Philippe Sandler - 25 (ex-Man City youngster - was at Feyenoord last year)
  • Yoann Barbet - 29 (can also play left back - was Brentford captain then at QPR last year and played regularly but couldn't agree new deal. Would be awesome LCB in my opinion). played every game for QPR the season before last and 40/46 last year.
  • Havard Nordteil - 32 (released by Hoffenheim, played in the premier for West Ham, 52 caps for Norway, can also play center mid)
  • Lamine Kone (hahahahaha)

Some good experienced players there. I think a player than can cover more than one position ie RB and CM would make a lot more sense for the squad.

I agree in some points but what I was trying to say is that if you give a player a contract then it should be honoured weather that player is financially in need of the money doesn't really matter what is galling us the fact they owe players money for contracts they pit them on and now don't want to pay up or want them to leave and then pay them back over a number of years whilst spending money like its going out of fashion. Its not right and should be stopped in my opinion as they are buying players they can't even register as they will breach league rules it's laughable and makes a mockery of the system
I understood what you were saying and, like I said, contracts should be honoured. I just don't necessarily have a problem with what they are doing, other than that it puts the future of the club in jeopardy. There should be some kind of mechanism in place to prevent that happening. You'd have thought that the way in which the club is run would incorporate something to stop the president running it into the ground.

If we get a small-ish fee and a sell on for Diamond then thats great. would much much much rather we sold our youth products that aren't breaking through rather than hold onto them until its time to release them

If we sign players with a buy back we might want to sell players like him with a buy back.

I just at times see Clarke being an okay WB (that's why he is in the current team) I guess Diamond and Roberts are not good WBs?

I think the answer is to have an extra centre back that allows Cirkin to play LWB in the times where a better defender than Clarke is needed there.

Personally having watching the game on Saturday back, we need to find a way to keep Pritchard, Clarke, Simms and Stewart all in that side together. And the only plausible way currently is to have Clarke at wing back, unless we go to 4-4-2 which is rarer than a chocolate teapot.

But we have 4 centre backs without counting Dennis....2 of whom have Champ experience....why do we need another?

because we play 3 at the back and if one gets injured we have no cover, especially if Clarke is injured and Cirkin has to play LWB

The idea of only needing 4 CBs is based around playing two at back and wanting two per position.

Batth and Wright aren't exactly known for their ability to stay fit for a whole season, and looking at Ballard I'd put my house on him being suspended at some point...

Well,if Clarke gets injured and Batth and Wright aren't fit and Ballard is suspended....then I agree we have a selection problem...but,there's a lot of ifs in there?

No - we only need two of those things to happen, not all of them. And add Cirkin and Alese to that list.

I'd put money on there being at least 7 games this season where two of Cirkin, Alese, Wright, Ballard, Clarke and Batth aren't available.

The more I've thought about it, its pretty clear we need another body defensively. personally I'd want an up and coming player rather than an older one, unless they're a big step up on Batth

We'll have to disagree. I don't think we need another centre back....any addition to the defensive unit would be a left back imo. However,I was really impressed with Jack Clarke on Saturday....that clearance off the line showed his understanding of the defensive role he has to play....he's an intelligent footballer and I can well see why Alex Neil wanted him back. We may have a star here....but we may need a back up.
I think we're covered in the centre and at right back.
We need a defensive,break-up play centre mid.with lots of power and pace.....that's the priority imho.
If we got that,I wouldn't be too unhappy with the squad as it is.

its definitely the "last" position we need. As you say central midfielder and probably a better RWB would be my two priorities (not scapegoating Gooch here - just think its an area to be improved).

But if the club HAVE decided we need an extra CB option then there's no reason they shouldn't get that now, rather than wait until we have the priorities.

If you're at the supermarket and you really want beer and wine but you also might want to pick up some milk if you remember, and then you're passing the milk section, you don't think "I'll come back to this once I've got my beer". You pick it up and then go and find your beer.

that's the worst analogy I've ever done.
