As previously pointed out to DuMDum a wee while ago when he was coming out with this pish, the Shetland Isles sit in Scottish waters. IF they were ever to become independent of Scotland then they would be classed as an enclave and as such would only own the sea six miles around their islands. I dare say there are oil fields within those limits and good luck to them IF they become independent and manage to get a lift out of them.

Yep. I remember in 2014 The Gammon and Farage started that line about an independent Shetlands, and it was quietly pointed out to them by senior Scottish No figures like Gordon Brown to shut the **** up as they didn't understand Maritime Law, and they weren't helping things.

First of all they'd have to find a way of being allowed to have a referendum on independence, then they'd have to find a way of winning it, both of which are unlikely given the current situation.

In the very unlikely event that they somehow managed both of those, they'd then have to pass the eco-rules, which would be difficult given the economic mess they'd be in if they managed to get that far, and they'd have an even harder task of resisting some form of devolution for the Islands.

I guess it could be elaborated further, and look at the fact that Scotland don't 'own' the oil, but just the tax revenue from it coming ashore, but they also have a liability for the decommissioning costs for the oil rigs that need to be accounted for along with the decline in oil profits, and the links to the greens, or perhaps look at why Krankie **** her pants when Westminster called her bluff and she was offered full fiscal autonomy back in 2015.

Scotland doesn't own any oil rigs mate. The decommissioning costs are down to the companies that own them. There is no decline in oil profits. In fact the British treasury has just had the most revenue from Scottish oil they have ever had. That's in 50 years bullet brain.

The fact you assumed I'd said Scotland owns the rigs, when what I actually said is that they have a liability for decommissioning suggests that you've a lot of work to do to fill the many gaps in your understanding.

It's also true that Krankie **** herself when they called her bluff and offered her full fiscal autonomy. The reasons behind that say a lot.

But it's academic, as there is no referendum liable to occur, and the current polls suggest that even if they found a way around that, it would be the same outcome as the previous 'once in a generation' vote.
