You’re not wrong about Djenepo’s defending. He gets back and puts in a shift. But with his wild legs I always worry about the free-kicks he will give away, or worse.

It’s just going forward where I feel he offers nothing. I’ve always said, he’s better coming off the bench going up against a tired full-back.

I’m keen to see it given a go. Repeatedly playing Djenepo as a winger/attacking mid wasn’t working. He clearly has talent, maybe he can find his nice there.

It would give us a plan B when our fullbacks are injured, like now.

Based on what Ralph tried in pre season, this will be the case.

    Bazuna
    ABK Bednarek Salisu
    Kwp jwp. Lavia. Djenepo
    Aribo
    Adams stu Armstrong

That is my predicted 11. Essentially 3-5-2 with Aribo having the greater freedom to attack from midfield. Although not 100% on if he will go for Stu up front, might be Arma instead, Romeu for Lavia potentially too, but the back 5 and keeper are nailed on imo.

I think you’re going to be right. Just not my preferred line-up, that’s all.

    Agree with this.
I worry that he will concede a penalty, if backed into the box by a tricky, quick footed player.
I enjoyed his pre-season forays forward, as it caused an overload on the opposition full back, but his end product simply has to improve.

Me neither. I prefer 433… I’ve probably never mentioned that on here :emoticon-0102-bigsm

Wing backs don't tend to go back into the box that much. The three CB'S have that covered.

Game on then. Hoping for the best prepared for the wurst. Have a good day all those going, we're at a birthday party, I'll stream it on my phone with the occasional exclamation, YES or **** IT. as appropriate.

I've seen plenty of speculation on the formation how about this? Who would play where?

Saw him in the box enough times, during pre-season to know that there will be times when he will be there, including a time when he was turned inside out with his feet flailing around. A “smart” opponent will be looking for a one on one with him and against the top teams, that pin us back in our own half, he will have to defend deeper.

    Match day.

    Gulp.

Going to miss it despite being in North London this afternoon, as I have a rather important gig to manage (which I’m sure Tom and Libby are coming along to after the match <laugh>)

Nervous to be honest. I’m guessing it will obvious fairly early on how this will go. Surprise us Saints, keep it tight and show some quality in the final third.

I don’t remember in detail as I was young, but I’m pretty sure that teams didn’t play 235 out of possession

The full backs would be out on the wings, the CH would be a CB, the LH & RH would be defensive and the IR & IL defensive midfield

    So more 523 or 532?

I actually understand that line up!

Personally, I really don't know how to feel about this season. My hope is that we show up in every game, give the opposition something to think about during every game and that each player earns his shirt for the next game. I think we'll be ok but after the last couple of years........??
    Let's see and stay hopeful!!

Disappointed to be missing this one. Doubt I'll be saying that around half time tbh, but you never know. Might have to go into hiding if we get thumped.

This was the formation the last time I actually played football, which is why you won't see me commenting on tactical issues. Like John Snow, I know nothing!

I really hope I’m wrong, but I just don’t see it at all.

He’s never convinced me at all when defending. I personally just think he’s not a PL player and we should stop trying to force an attacking player into a makeshift LB.

Would love him to prove me wrong as he seems like a lovely bloke
