Root, Bairstow, Livingstone, Buttler, Salt, Malan, Brook, Mahmood, Parkinson, Rashid. Willey, Gleeson, Anderson. What’s that? It’s a list of the Yorkshire and Lancashire players who have represented England this year. Have I missed anyone? Then there’s Lyth & Jennings who have played in the not too distant past. Imagine how strong the northern counties would be if they could field full strength teams every week. Combined XI - short form games Salt, Buttler, Malan, Root, Bairstow, Livingstone, Willey, Mahmood, Rashid, Gleeson, Parkinson As strong as most international teams!
I can’t wait for The Over 100s Walking Round The Garden Final. I hope they don’t drug test the competitors though
If anyone's interested, Sky Documentary ch121 are showing Fire in Babylon at 16.00 today story of the West indies cricket team from70 and 80s , if I remember correctly it's got a very good soundtrack
I thought the reports of Ricky Bibey's death were pretty weird at the time. He was dead, his missus was hospitalised and everything was very low-key. Turns out he was battering her while coked up and drunk and he had a heart attack. What a ****er.
Certainly not defending him but it looks like another case of a players career ending prematurely through injury and cast aside and forgotten by the sport , there should be more help to cases like these rather that just a pay off which more often than not encourages the person to indulge in drink and drugs
Well that ended well, if Stokes Carry's on like that he will be finished in a yr , I hate to see it but his body is telling him to give up bowling
Off to The Oval tonight to watch Surrey v Warwickshire (**** the ridiculous American names) in the Hundred. I've been to a couple of T20 games and it's a pleasant way to spend an evening ....especially if it's at somebody else's expense. Thanks to my older brother's employer for the invite. It makes me think of going to watch a 4 way tournament (Middx, Surrey, Kent and Essex), in a very similar vein to the Hundred, at Selhurst Park, in the mid-80's when Palace were absolutely ****ing skint and would do anything for a few quid (including selling their away end to J Sainsbury). Me and a mate sat in the middle of The Holmsdale terrace, on a pleasant summer evening, and watched Chris Tavare smash the ball all over the place, in complete wonderment. Kent made the final but I think that they lost...possibly to Essex. I've tried to find details of this event on the internet, with no success but I swear it happened.
Brother in law and myself went to watch a middlesex one day game in Isleworth , we sat next to an empty hospitality tent after a while we got curious as to what was in the tent and we found fridges of beer and wine very nice packed lunches and complimentary goodie bags ,needless to say the bags were put to good use to carry food and refreshments to the other side of the ground , a good day was had by all sitting around that tent
Reminds me of my second wedding. My mother in law got her cousin to order the booze from his employer, an independent off licence. He ordered double what could possibly be drunk in one evening, even by my mates, on sale or return....so come the end of the evening, they loaded every last drop into 2 cars and ****ed off with the lot, persuading my arseholed baby brother to drive one car and one of my uncles to drive the other. It got mentioned in the divorce petition....
