The win is nice although not that important. Good for so many to get a run out but Adams' injury is disappointing. Hopefully only minor. It will be interesting to see if Sawyers and Ralls get a run out next game. For those that saw the game, did anyone create a positive impression?
An injury is a concern especially a newbie with a point to prove. Ralls was in Scotland but Sawyers missed the trip so probably has a bit of fitness to make up. Rather than individuals Id be interested in how they lined up in terms of formation and changes in style from last year. An early goal for Watters will hopefully help his confidence. And a goal for Collins puts 50p on his sale price.
Rinomhota looked good and Romeo at right back. McGuinness and Nelson from the old crew were solid (apart from their second goal) and Tanner will cause some defences a few headaches. All in all a good warm up in hot conditions and Cambridge were a decent opposition.
You had via text messages, Anyway for what it's worth Andy Rinomhota was the stand out player for me and will be very popular with the fans. Despite giving them a free header for the equaliser, Ollie Denham had a good game and will be a good player for us this season. A goal for Bagan suggests we might see a few from that source. Nice to see Collins and Watters on the scoresheet, but not convinced they will be regulars in the team. Felt sorry to see Adams go off injured. He looked to be in a lot of pain. Hope it's not too bad. Roll on Tuesday. Also the away games go on sale tomorrow, so I think Cheltenham and Swindon for me over the next couple of weeks
A huge concern is our defence. It was terrible last season conceding far too many goals with clean sheets a luxury. To my mind 0-0 is better than losing 0-1 so if we haven’t got the strikers to score it’s just as important to keep a clean one. City under Mackay after a 5 goal mauling at Charlton shut up shop, and City regularly won games to nil afterwards. It wasn’t always pretty but it was effective ensuring promotion. I’ve little confidence in our current group of defenders keeping clean sheets. Conceding 2 to Cambridge just isn’t acceptable.
I wouldn't worry much after a first friendly with 2 different 11's and an extra sub. More of a getting to know each other outing. Hopefully we will see more settled sides and improved defences as the friendlies continue.
I’ve now seen the limited highlights. 2nd & 3rd goals were well crafted. Poor goal to concede in1st half - reminiscent of several headed goals conceded last season. Their 2nd also showed up the CD. I reiterate my concern even though it’s v early days. The younger Colwill looks another great prospect
