Acun has previously stated he would spend big on a proven, experienced goalscorer. This guy fits the bill, and we tried to sign him in the last window but missed out, hopefully 2nd time lucky.
George on his way according to this Sunderland based journalist. Would be a big mistake and massive loss imo
Sadly I'm not surprised l. I love Honeyman and I think it's a mistake but when you see 3 international midfielders come in, then they're probably going to start. This contract situation has felt uneasy, he said he wanted to stay but rejected the deal, and it feels we're at a bit of a stalemate. Hopefully it's garbage and he stays because we're a better side with him in it
I always got the impression he wasn't particularly keen on Shota. Being played out of position probably didn't help.
I know and that's the problem. I must say though, as a number 10 at this level, I'm not sure he's particularly creative. He's got all the energy in the world and he does have his moments but I felt midfield was the massive issue last year. It's also worth saying that we were looking at Twine and wanted to keep KLP too. I'm assuming we're still looking for an attacking midfielder then and I don't see where George fits in It's tough because he comes across as a great guy and pro, and he's been magnificent for us but..
He was good at L1, I don’t feel he was as effective at this level. He’s full of energy which will be the be all and end all for some on here. However if George rates himself he should stay and fight to get in this team and prove he can do it with better players around him
Without a shadow of a doubt he wasn't as effective this year. But you look at our record with him in the side and without and you see what an important player he is for us. It depends what we can get from Millwall for him though too, if it's pittance, I'd keep him
Seri only played 33 games last season for Fulham, I'm not sure he's up to playing a full 46 game campaign, particularly with the game squeezed so close together with the WC. We're also allowed 5 subs now. I would think that Honeyman would start his fair share of games and make plenty more appearances off the bench regardless of the quality of the three coming in.
But Seri will play in the deepest role so it's pretty unlikely George would be coming on for him. You'd imagine that would be Slater's job. I thought Traore and Honeyman would be in direct competition but we don't know who else we're planning to bring in yet so it's a little tough to say
I guess my point was there will be rotation in the midfield. Having also already lost Smallwood, as you say if Honeyman leaves our midfield depth is basically just Docherty and Slater for three positions. That doesn't seem enough. Jones at a pinch as well I suppose.
He's been great for us. I'm feeling that probably we're moving on to a future where, although his energy & commitment might be missed, he doesn't have the quality to fit with what is being built. If he really was a stand out (top Championship / lower PL) there would be a queue of top sides chasing him and for big money ... but he isn't and there isn't. He's been very good for us as a L1 side and then as a struggling Championship side, and mainly due to his incredible work rate. If he stays, great. If he goes, fine, best of luck and thanks for the great effort. (edit: hence why we are maybe not pushing the boat out to keep him ... not that I know what terms are being offered!)
In fairness Milwall are a side who will be in and around the play off picture so it's not as if he's going back to Sunderland or something.
Think as of right now it’s not the right decision, Traore and Ozan don’t exactly have the best track records with keeping fit. Honeyman has never let us down and I think we should be at least attempting to keep him this season although I can see the urge to sell rather then allow to leave for nowt but I think he can still offer us something in this transition period
