On holiday abs talking to a fellow Sunderland fan (who's a woman) and we've kinda swapped stories. Turns out she lives in Stanley and in her local they " teased" her for want of a better word for being a makem and have played music to ridicule her so much so she's left the pub. Now be, I would've stood up too then and fought back with arguments such as when was the last time they beat us but I would never leave. Did after she left it made me think - an I passionate about me team and would fight tooth and nail for then or just obnoxious?
It just shows how much our city, club and fans are under the mags’ skin, I would personally stay and defend us to the hilt but you can see why you wouldn’t want to go back. Durham mags are the absolute worst btw.
I wouldn't expect any less in Stanley tbh! It's such a strange place. Most probably comes from the abnormally cold climate. As the rest of the country basks in record high temps today, I wouldn't be surprised if someone told me there was frost on the ground in Stanley this morning.
I'd have sat there until chucking out time and put Wise Men Say on the dukebox on repeat. Classless ****ers.
This! They can't just support the mags they have to pretend to be Geordies and talk about how great Newcastle is and have a complete anti-Sunderland side to them! They overcomplicated for not being real Geordies. As I have probably mentioned on here before I moved from Hendon when I was about 11 Crook. They were the same trying to ignore the fact they had **** all connection to Newcastle or even Northumberland other than they were 92ers!
Aye, Durham mags are dreadful. All 92’ers (even though we finished third off bottom of the second division). I’ve heard some eat their own bairns.
Used to go with a lass from Dunston, she was a mad S'land fan like her dad and brother. She told me she watching us play in a pub there and this bloke noticed her cheering when we scored. He started calling her a Mackem Slag etc and got worse and worse threatening her eventually. So much so she got on the phone to her son (who is a Mag) who came down the pub and knocked the bloke out. Said nobody bothered her after that
Aye, I lived on the Wentworth side, not far from the red lion, as a kid, then I got a flat just behind the petrol station when I was 19. still have loads of mates in Ouston. Good place to live, equidistant from just about anywhere you'd want to go.
The sound of a “Mag” spouting the word mackem in a Durham accent is embarrassing, cringeworthy and laughable but I suppose they have to prove some how they are “Geordie’s “
A lot of my school mates were from Chester, I used to be down there most weekends. The butchers arms for some ale and then the market tav for a quick one before the bus. I had a drive down the front street last year and it wasn't looking good. Covid or a general decline?
