Here we go again. Watching highlights of football last night and seeing fans like arsenal all stood up, people holding young kids up and virtually every set of away fans stood up it makes you wonder if Hull is unfortunate in having so many people with ill health and health problems. the sort of ill health which enables them to travel for hours in cars, walk from the car to the game walk up to their seats but means then they absolutely must remain seated for 90 minutes, some of them moaning at people for standing up to applaud the team when it comes on to the pitch. Wat's the betting WHU have a contingent of fans which will contain no people with bad legs or any other problems or little kids who can't see the game as the will, like other away fans at the KC, remain standing, as do fans at other clubs all over the country.
I'm in my 50's and have been going to City for 48 years and don't need young newcomers who in a lot of cases didn't go until we had an all seater stadium or people like Strovolos who appears to have a worse attitude problem than the chavs he condemns with his attitude of how hard he and his young kids are thinking everyone should sit down as that is what they prefer. Other teams manage to have a set of fans who stand and get behind the team so why do we have this problem?
In my 48 years of watching football the poor games I've seen, the bad management, lock-outs, relegations etc have never put me off going. However the sanctimonious, miserable sods we seem to have attracted more than our share of and who ruin the matchday experience with their negativity and lack of support, although a lot are ready to be far louder in their moaning than supporting makes me fele like not bothering.

I find it simple, if most fans around me stand, I stand. If most sit, I sit. My preference is to stand when I can. but lifes too short and I can still sing as well sat down.

Then don't bother, you won't be missed by me and my "hard" kids, it would simply mean we wouldn't have to spend the whole game trying to see something thanks to your selfishness.

No, seriously, I wouldn't bother. If not sitting down is more important than supporting the club, you're obviously not much of a fan anyway.

I'm sorry but how is someone a **** for expressing their views? OK maybe they could of put it better but just because it is the opposite of what you feel doesnt make them a ****? this has been blown way out of proportion, it was meant to be a simple statement that the atmosphere at away games are steadily getting worse because of the increase of people sitting now and that some people are being arrogant. Both parties are guilty of not taking others into account really, i've been going away since we were in div 3 and no one used to stand, that i saw of, and no body complained that people were stood up, even the elderly stood up most games its just baffling to see why this has changed? Anyway like i said its been blown way out of proportion and people need to realise just because people are young etc that they arent being violent and young people need to realsie that the elderly are not trying to ruin peoples day out.

    This.

Oh and the atmosphere is **** all to do with the people sitting down, so stop blaming that on them, that's a stupid argument. The problem is the small band of tosspots who think that the only way to support a team is to stand up and sing, and anyone else is just a miserable old bastard who doesn't deserve to be there. I suspect its the same morons who think "taunting" the other fans, from the safety of the away end/middle of one of stands means they're hard too.

Im still gobsmacked people are trying to justify this stupid whinge, and for picking at all sorts of little details at the club when we're doing so well. It's almost like they only started supporting the club when we went up to the PL and never heard of a group of us going to Scarboro with the fear that if Scarboro won, we were outa the league, or the club winding up, or any of the other bad **** thats happened. Seriously, sitting down fans isn't destroying anything.

    Thats a tad unfair.

Maybe they should just cut their legs off at the ankle / knee / hip - depending on how faling tall they are.

(They are also probably the same lanky buggers that always stand in front of me at gigs).

    Yours Sincerely,

You really are an arrogant piece of **** aren't you. The kids are there because THEY want to support the team as much as their Dad and that shouldn't be spoilt by ****ing pricks like you.

Yes really, from what I see at matches, not one person looks behind them before they stand up, they just do it and that is as far as I can see is perfectly normal. I react to the situation and if there are 200 stood up in front of me, do you really expect me to be the one to ask them to sit down?
No one would ever force me to sit down either if the crowd in front was standing, thats my point and if missed well thats life.
The stewards and police are there to to sort out the standing. I want to watch the match, if it means that I have to stand up, I do, if I don't want to stand, I move. If someone wants to try to prove that they are harder than me, they can but try, but come on be real, are posters really saying that they would risk getting thrown out with their kids in tow, because someone stood in front of them, it just doesn't happen. What do they do swing a punch, swear, threaten or become abusive or do they call a steward in? Because let me make myself quite clear, I would not spoil anyones match and I would not want anyone to try to spoil mine.

StrovolosTiger I totally agree with your comments and I hope that Amberosia never suffers from Arthritis which can flare up at any time and for his information I go to the gym 4-5 times a week and cycle 30 kilometers each visit and I'm 52 !!! but for some people you cope with what you have with no choice in the mater. As I said before I like to stand and the choice should be there but it isn't at the moment !!! UTT <cheers>

and by the way, our stratified sample of Hull City fans poll currently shows almost 62% of travelling fans prefer to stand, so I suggest that the noisey minority put up and shut up!!!

So what would you actually do?

Please be realistic. I posted that I sometimes stand and sometimes sit. I am as selfish as the man stood up in front of me and the one in front of him et al. So just what would you do?

You wouldnt have to do anything if I was the only one stood up, because I would be sitting like the rest of the crowd.

The atmosphere has nothing to do with whether you are standing or sat. I sit at all matches but will leap off my seat with the best of them when City score or a bad refereeing decision. That is atmosphere.

Why is it selfish to sit in a seating area?

Well hopefully the Fans Liaison Officer (does that job or title still exist?* see separate Danny Pratt thread) or any other person on Citys groundstaff will read this and send an internal memo up the chain of command.

Seems a shame that there are lots of City fans who want to go away and support the team in different ways, and that there is clearly 2 opinions which polarise them, and that something COULD be done about it when tickets are sold initially.

If you can pick and choose where to sit at cinemas or New Theatre etc why not at football grounds? City have seating plans ... you can see it when you go into the ticket office. Surely then there must be a way to arrange with away clubs that front seats are for those who prefer to sit (choice / age / infirmity etc) and those at the back to stand and sing.

Everyone gets the best of both worlds then.Probably better for standing singers to be at the back = more noise due to acoustics ?
