Think we've benefitted from Villa a bit here tbh. They went for Digne and paid a decent chunk for him (£30?) so have to make sure he's their number one left back. Targett is worth more than this amount (I reckon more like £15-20m) but they can't fit him in. Honestly think they've made a mistake, I wanted Digne in January but from what I've seen of both players I'm not convinced they've got much of an upgrade at all.
Brilliant first signing of the off season. He was quality in the last 19 games - don' think I can remember a moment of thinking - "Jesus what's he up to here?". A really good, solid, dependable LB who allows ASM a bit more freedom, especially with Joelinton covering for him as well.
Targett is solid as a rock and we know he's upto it. We could sign lodi and I'd be delighted, but he might fail miserably or take time to adapt. Right now newcastle need to be very careful and they are. It might take a few years of walking away from deals until clubs stop asking for silly money, but in the end it'll be worth it.
Absolutely. You can buy a couple of 10m - 15m players and the odd 30m one to pull it all together. It just feels like they know what they are doing. Which is great. I still think we will get a CM. I’m convinced we will.
People have lost their minds with prices.. I keep saying it though... It's what you get not what you pay. If newcastle signed a player they'd never heard of for 100 million they'd go on like they were class before a ball was kicked. I honestly could not give a **** what the prices are or what their name is... I just see what they play like.
To replace him yes. I want him to be surplus to requirements. He’s got a good deal though and he knows it too. So we won’t be selling anytime soon.
Agreed. They have not really made any poor signings so far. Some will say Wood but he did what we needed at the time and we got results.
Agreed with everything but a CM - Joe, Bruno, Willock, Longstaff, Shelvey already there - Matty Longstaff may get a chance under Howe as well. I think a CAM like Eriksen or Paqueta once the next priority positions are covered - CB, RW, CF, GK, CM in that order I'd imagine.
Or a Fulham who think they need his passing qualities. I don’t think I hate him as much as you do and he’s not a bad back up.
I wouldn't care I spend half my life hearing how **** the state of the club is because of Ashley, yet here I am 8 months into a takeover reading fans beliefs about finishing top 6 and 80 million pound players signing. The new owners need time to build training grounds the lot. Slow and steady it'll take years
If you can get Eriksen in on a free then that’s a great bit of business. It might be we do indeed sign him I can actually see it happening.
Step by step. It has to be all relative. There is an old saying isn’t there. You need to walk before you can run. Im extremely happy with the progress in the last 8 months.
