Not sure I'd say Jota has no pace, but his approach play in the last couple of months after he came back from injury has been ****e. I think a rest this summer may help - you have to remember, when Mo and Mane were away in January, he was outstanding. You don't go bad overnight.
I agree that scoring wasn't the problem until it really mattered which was at the business end of the season. We played 3 cup finals without scoring a single goal. I agree about Bobby. He should have either started or come on at half time. As we know, Klopp doesn't do halftime subs.
Nunez and Rafina - let Mo and mane go if we get @£80m for both. We'll lose on shirt sales, but we're not Man U. Time to do what Shanks did in 1970 and start breaking the Old Guard up before it becomes desperate.
Was it poor finishing or just really bad luck? Mendy and Courtois both had absolute worldies against us. Someone had run a Monte Carlo analysis on the 3 finals and we actually had a higher chance of scoring 15 goals across the 3 games than 0! Here's the results of the MC simulation which ran 10,000 simulations and only 3 predicted that we would score 0 goals ... astonishing. please log in to view this image
Shanks didn't win anything for 7 years cos he didn't break up the old guard. Paisley learned the lesson Dalglish repeated the issue. Whelan molly rush nicol Hanson Keep it fresh but don't hack and burn like souness either.
We miss a **** tonne of chances mate. Always have. All your analysis proves is some statistical nonsense misses the point thst to score first you have to hit the target. This is one of our prime issues. The second part is scuffed shots that are fairly easy to save are not real chances. We created loads but we miss loads.
I think there's a combination of things - particularly in the CL final, we didn't create any clear cut chances. Courtois made two brilliant saves vs Mane and Salah but both had manufactured their shots out of nothing. It was out of their own brilliance more than anything. And that has been the issue for a little while - relying on individual brilliance. All of the best teams rely on creating high volume of chances. They all miss a sh*t tonne as well. Messi and Ronaldo have the best goal scoring records in the history of football but their conversion rates are marginally better than Mo and Mane.
Salah touch in box was an honest to god great chance. It was a world class touch and he was straight in and had his shot. He didnt hit the corner. He hit close enough to courtois that a flailing arm glances the ball off a bicep and out. Mane actually scuffed the ball when he was allowed shift the ball in the box and he get saved, hits.post and bounces off keepers back and out. I agree we didn't create well as we played in front... again. All 3 forwards come short and particularly trent just never ran beyond their width. We have lost this element of getting behind defences esp massed defences and making them do something to block us. This imo is the single biggest issue. Playing a ball put wide finally to a mane totally isolated who then just plays back rather than over landing the area and committing player sbefore playing the ball. I counted at least 20 times a player gets the ball and wants to pass forward early rather than run at a player then lay off to the player running in. It's all too easy to defend. To score first you have to hit the target.
I know a Leeds fan that would love to see Raphinha leave this summer. He'd be very happy with £50m too
I'd say they are not too impressed by his level of commitment I wouldnt personally touch him with a barge pole.
Klopp obviously has this plan that doesn’t want TAA out wide. What ever re do don’t think of it, that’s his way of playing and how can you moan about tactics when got 92 points, reached 3 finals and won 2 of them? Saying that, against blocked defences need to just have a bit of variety. We don’t have those kdb, silva, foden types who can play a pass through the needle into the box. Also don’t really have any option to shoot from outside like kdb offers. It would be nice to see players overload outside and get to the line for cut back now and then as would at least keep the opposition guessing. It’s how city score a lot of goals, 90% of sterling’s goals are back post tap ins! Thing is, we scored a lot of goals from crosses but they were more like counter crosses. On the run, delivered from deeper areas behind the defence for players to run into. Rather than balls just lobbed into the middle for forwards to challenge the CBs. It worked well when we were a very counter attacking side but these days teams sit back off us a lot more meaning less space for that to happen. Feel we’ve gone from a counter attack and press team, winning ball high etc to a more controlled possession team in recent years. Seems like we don’t win it back as much. Whether that’s klopps tinkering, or whether we don’t have players for that kind of game anymore. Bobby, Salah, mane, Hendo who were all key to us are 2/3 years older and maybe lost that small bit of zip.
Luck always plays it's part but like poor refereeing, we should be able to win a game without either. Klopp has even said that he's told players to take chances with their shooting because a deflection is always possible. That's the best kind of luck of course. The fact that Courtois had a great game still shouldn't stop us winning. We've got the best goalkeeper in the world but other factors meant that Real could still score past him. Didn't Salah only score once in our last 18 games? I haven't checked so could be wildly wrong but that's more than just bad luck.
I like Milner. No one gives more on the field. There are worse options to have, but he's not ideal for 90 mins anymore. I'd rather Milner on the field than Keita or Ox, for example. Or even rather Milner than Gomes at RB. Extending Milner's contract is not the answer to our midfield problems though. He definitely a good option on the bench.
Milner is there to advise and fill in. Maybe start his coaching ticket. When the 3rd round of league cup rolls round and peeps are worrying about cl groups and such guess what. Milly. When preseason is on and Elliott needs telling about how to eat or sleep or focus guess what milly will be there pushing him. I'll be surprise if he plays 10-15 games tbh.
Just a question: Who thinks they actually know the score with mane and his big mouth? What's the final [outcome for those who do think they know more than just what the press is putting out.
