15 years one heard newcastle fans deny having unrealistic expectations, but here we are 8 months into a takeover with the club in 19th and they think the club can sign players from the top shelf. They like saying what about Bruno, but the fact is 90 % of them hadn't even seen him play a game or even heard of him until 16 weeks ago. That's the reality... Not Paquetas or Nunezs ffs.. Get it in your god damn heads man.
Yet it's okay for Villa signing Coutinho, Kamara, Carlos. It's okay for Leicester to go snap up Tilemans in the past, or Richarlison and Pickford for Everton or Ramsay for Rangers or Sarr for Watford?
Woah what exactly are we talking about here, who's coming, where and why can we/you/I not afford it? Not even hand stuff?
Aston villa are years into growing that club off and on the pitch. Leicester are way ahead. If you can find a better piece of evidence than the words of amanda Staveley and our manager then please provide it.
The immediate issue is our wage/turnover ratio is already at 68%. PL rules now state it has to be 70% or lower, else there are penalties. So the immediate issue is getting turnover up - it already has, thankfully, as Covid is now over, but we've got a lot of deals to do behind the scenes. That's why Chaos is likely right about Paqueta, Nunez and now Diaby simply being too expensive. Now is the time for Nickson to prove himself. There are good stories - Bruno is definitely one, and as 'head of recruitment' he's also got to be involved in the success of Burn, Targett and Trippier. Everybody makes poor signings - we all understand what he thought he was getting in Wood, just didn't work out. He was wrong about Big Joe up front, but not wrong about that lad's attitude, effort, intelligence and - belatedly - overall ability. Nickson was there when we got ASM for £20m. He's going to have to work on similar levels once again, but this time we might be able to get the top picks. Those top picks will need to be at the right price, have the right attitude and - crucially for Howe/Ashworth - have football intelligence. That's a really hard mix to get right. It's like saying you want a car, but when you get to the crux of it you actually want a 7 seater, hybrid engine, less than 3,000 miles with all mod-cons. So you're already fishing in a small pond. Then when you think you've found the right one, all the dealerships are trying to charge you double.
We have a budget of 250 million over 3 years and gave spent 100 after 8 months.. The number of required players this window of 4 to 6. I would expect players 20 to 30 million are affordable.
I was going to say paqs isn’t a worldie but actually he is isn’t he. The only reason their is belief he would sign is because of Bruno. Bruno is a gem of a signing and could attract top (not world class) players.
It's "about" £250m of "investment". I'd say the PIF and consortium earmarked around £600m for buying the club, then additional improvements, backroom spending, etc. Then there's money generated, commercially, via sales, etc., which for a club like ours is about another £60m+ a year. What we need is players ranging from Matt Targett (£15m) to Bruno G (£35m). Anything more is too much, anything less should be youth/development. That mid-market should have more than enough quality to fill the 5-6 positions we need. But that means Diaby, Nunez, etc., are off the agenda.
I just look at our squad and see Gayle, Murphy, Hayden,, Lascelles and Darlow and then I see 100 million available to replace them. Paqueta and Nunez would take up all our funds for the next 2 years
I agree and when I'm reading the words and figures from our actual Co owner I find it bewildering why the majority of our fanbase pretend they haven't read it.
For me 2-3 good signings in the region of 20m is what we need right now. But they have to be good. Tarkowski would be my choice of CB. I would have signed Tags. Ekitike would be 30m ok That literally would be it for me.
60 to 80 million gets you a few very good players and improves the squad greatly if it's spent well. To a degree the prices are irrelevant to us as fans. I mean we signed burn 13 million and he's proved to be a good signing. It's got to the point I think fans want to see their clubs spending 50 million just so they can say wow look at us we're massive. Just improve the team
****s sake this is what 15years of Ashley does to people Has the takeover happened? ****ing doom and gloom on here Not a single poster on here has any clue what the budget will be!!! It will be what it will be If the players Eddie wants are available we will try to get them They are playing down the money exactly how you would expect them to do If you think there’s not a financial advisor at the club crunching numbers to make us bulletproof with FFP then you’re a lunatic These guys aren’t in it for second best Shirts / sponsors / commercial deals will all be in hand , Mike has gone remember It’s 2 weeks since the season has finished Internationals being played / holidays etc give it a ****ing chance man
We have any idea though unless people choose to ignore her. No doom and gloom that's just the negative response to what's a good amount.
Villa aren't miles ahead of us in their project. They've done **** all with Villa Park, They've increased the gymnasium, match analytics room, medical room and sports science department at the training ground in addition to opening a centre for excellence which recently opened. By changing manager at same time as us and finishing lower than us in the division they are not years ahead of us. By the tie the season kicks off our training ground will match theirs if not be better than theirs. Our ground will still be bigger and better than theirs, ours support base bigger and better than theirs and our squad will be better than theirs. Leicester are years ahead of us so I will yield to that one.
