A very cheeky opening gambit to find out what everyone is up to with an extra couple of days off this weekend. Whether it be a street party, barbeque, party in the park, let us know what you're up to. Understand that not everyone on here appreciates the Royal Family, but let's keep it light hearted. I'm off to Barnsley tonight from Devon in order to take part in an organised 100mile Trans-Pennine walk. No camping/sleeping 100 miles straight off starting at 9:00am Friday morning, hoping to be finished in around 40 hours (time limit 48hrs) some time in the early hours of Sunday morning. It seemed like a good idea at the time, now I'm not so sure!! As I say a cheeky opening gambit because I'm using the exercise to raise a bit of money for the AT Society. The children of two of my work colleagues have now been affected by Ataxia Telangiectasia a life limiting neurodegenerative disease so to make the effort a little more worthwhile I'd like to help them out. 2nd June is my husbands 70 th birthday So actually is his platinum jubilee. Irt is not actually the queen's at all. Coronation day was 1953
But she became Queen on Feb 6 1952 when George VI died. She chose the start of her reign for celebratory purposes a few months later out of respect for her father
Over 'ere in the colonies, we celebrate the Monday before May 24 as the Queen's birthday even though that queen was the one named Victoria. Were I still working, I would have loved the string of days in a row you are getting. But I am not, working now only as a polling clerk for provincial and federal elections one day every couple of years. Perversely, there be will be such an election in my province of Ontario so I will be working And more importantly, best wishes to your husband on his platinum jubilee, Beth
First Monday in June is celebrated here as queen's birthday Only people that really mention it is the shops holding queen's birthday sales Like all other public holidays it's nice to get another day off
I’ll be getting the garden furniture out. Which means jet washing the moss and algae ridden patio first. Also I have noticed a number of unusual plants in the garden which probably shouldn’t be there, so a little zapping of those will be done. I plan to spend a couple of hours trying to understand the councils new schedule for collection of waste, food waste, recycling and garden waste, and wondering where the **** I am a going to put another wheelie bin. Then I will be preparing a huge shoulder of lamb by marinading it in Middle Eastern spices for 24 hours before a long slow roast pre feasting on Sunday. Then I will have a lie down. Our local, The Fat Pug, is doing a street party, with live music etc. But not until 19th June I notice and branded as PugStock, nowt to do with Jubilee.
I read that they have struggled to sell seats which are very expensive. Shame. Where do you stand on the attempt to dump the varsity match and Eton v Harrow from Lords? I plan to watch a lot of cricket next year.
They are ridiculously expensive - I paid £280 for two. Not sure I'm too fussed about them dropping the 'Gentlemen's' games. I'm a member at the Oval this year but haven't made it down there yet.

Away to celebrate the ‘uvver‘arfs mums 90th b’day for tomorrow. Hopefully a BBQ in the offing with drinks (to help deal with the ‘in-law’ family who will argue over absolutely anything and can find fault with anything seemingly at the drop of a hat - don’t think Hammersmith is connected to the family, but could be possible). Back to open Studio Friday as we have Open Studios through to 12th June. No rest for the wicked - but chance to keep an eye on that Beale bloke and his antics. Hoping to intersperse days with a decent flow of refreshments.
Sadly my wife couldn’t get to Chelsea Flower Show in the end, pesky hospital appointment at short notice (all fine) gave her ticket to a friend.
Funnily enough, not much happening for the Queen's jubilee in Paris...no idea why. Guess the French are just worried she'll overtake Louis XIV as Europe's longest reigning monarch. He was 5 when he became King though, so not quite the same.
Picking daughter and family up from Heathrow Sat am then coffee or lunch somewhere as wife's birthday too then meal out for same in the evening with friends. Neighbours' tea on front drives in the afternoon with cakes etc. Get a cycle ride in somewhere too.
Attending a beacon lighting ceremony on Thursday night. Civic jubilee event in Harrow on Friday and Street Party on Saturday.
