I always found it interesting when in Manchester I was asked whether I supported City or United and answered Hull City. Many people were incredulous and asked why. I always answered "because I was born there" and usually added "well you can't accuse me of being a glory hunter" I always received total agreement to that.

There are some FC fans that 'support' Leeds for football, but see no conflict in standing at the rugby singing 'we all hate Leeds'. :emoticon-0102-bigsm

I have never really seen what is wrong with “glory supporting” - which itself is a massive assumption being made on behalf of thousands of people you don’t know. Is there a set way of choosing a football team and no other way should apply? It’s senseless.

Glory supporting simply shows a lack of character or low self esteem. I pity them in a funny kind of way. But I mainly disrespect any opinion they may have on anything football related or otherwise. You cannot trust a glory supporter.

Those that choose a big team, 'celebrate' a trophy because it justifies their choice, and they feel they gain reflected glory.

That experience is totally hollow, and pales to nothing when compared to the joy of the club you've connections to winning promotion from the bottom tier.
I agree with this 100%.

But it’s their choice. Who they choose to support has got **** all to do with a few blokes on a Hull City message board.

I can’t believe I have to keep repeating this - but which team a person chooses to support, and whether that person chooses to act like a dick in supporting that team, are two separate things, they aren’t the same thing.

Perhaps if you considered some of the comments offered in response, you may start to realise.

Stop being so patronising please. I’ve read them, and they all confuse someone’s preferred way to choose their team with someone’s ability to act like a twat. You can have the former without the latter. And my experience of some City fans is that you can also have the latter amongst people who choose their club “the right way”.

I'm not being patronising, it's insulting of you to suggest it is.

You've dogmatically repeated the same things, despite several posters pointing out alternatives, which you have chosen to ignore.

It was the expectation that you'd do that which made me say that I wouldn't bother explaining further.

Closely related I would say

To be honest if you have no concept of what it feels like for countless years to meet locals who when you tell them you support City , smirk, laugh and insult your decision to do so , then tell you they support a top team ,then it’s pointless debating the point. This country is full of people who revert to ‘it’s their choice , who are you to tell them why or what ‘ because they cannot comprehend someone’s support of a lower league status club, instead of taking the easy route they’ve done . If it ever goes tits up for them then maybe they will but I’d wager they then forget their support - they won’t want to be laughed at!!

I’m never bothered about who anyone supports, I occasionally drop a harsh line on one of my friends who supports the top teams, Utd fans at the moment are an easy target.
Most of the time, I really can’t be bothered with trolling other teams fans, if someone from Hull wants to support Leeds at the moment, they can hardly be called glory supporters, same with Utd, Arsenal, Spurs.
I grew up in the 70’s/80’s & my mates were either Utd or Liverpool fans, Utd were ****, getting to Cup Finals a few times, but then exploding into one of the best teams in the World, Liverpool, pretty much the opposite.
I work with Man City fans, who for years have had to put up with Utd fans trolling them, now it’s their turn.
If we get to the PL, people see me with my Hull City scarf & hat on in Manchester, will they assume I’m a glory supporter? If the unthinkable happened & Hull City somehow became Champions for a few years, what would people think then? Would people in Hull suddenly start following City, they would then become glory hunters, but because they live in Hull, no one would bat an eyelid!
If kids want to support a team, even Real Madrid, PSG or Barcelona, what difference does it make, except the ability to take the piss out of them when they lose.
The worst thing, would be for someone, who’s supported Utd, Liverpool or whoever, to suddenly change allegiance to Hull City or whoever is the flavour of the month, that to me isn’t supporting, that’s true glory hunting, & they won’t stick round when the going gets tough!

I see what you mean, the twat glory hunter flaunts his faux allegiance by wearing club shirts, flies the flag out of his bedroom window, adorns his kids in the shirt, sniggers at the local clubs lower status etc, we'd all agree he was a twat, but the passive glory hunter keeps it under wraps, watches his team in private, never takes the piss out of his local club. I'd still say the second category was wrong and drew support away from the local club, a tad less twattish?

Yes it's their choice.
Of course it's got something to do with "a few blokes (or ladies) on a Hull City message board"! We can have an opinion and can voice it on here. It's a football message board
You can't believe you have to keep repeating yourself. I can't believe you do. It's like you're implying we can't have a different opinion.

In the Premier I saw loads of ‘fans’ I grew up with Leeds , Everton Arsenal , Sheffield Utd from the 70’s at City and they got some stick , they are not there now again . I lost count of the blokes at golf who all got cup tickets went to the premier home matches , and stopped straight after - most were piss takers for years before - again they got outed.
Rather than follow current doctrine to fully accept everything and everybody so as not to ruffle feathers f*** em

Aye, that sounds good to me. I'm only a partial twat.

I know loafs of plaggy Liverpool fans who jumped on City's FA Cup journey...now back to being plaggy.

Now those are the real Cnuts. They live amongst us.

#PlaggysOut

Got to say those are the ones I hate the most, I know a fair few that where man utd/Leeds/arsenal fans etc until city got to the prem and then suddenly had tickets to see us and had been fans all their life etc etc.. funny how one of those was all over social media last night declaring how amazing it was how Leeds had stayed up and they where proud to be a Leeds fan and all the other marching on together bollox

Nothing more prouder than supporting your own city, I will never understand as long as I live how someone can support another club playing against their own city. I find it hard to understand that if Liverpool was playing Hull city they would go against the city that they are from , They are entitled to but for me it’s Strange but everyone to their own.
