I getting really fed up with football now. I am watching the cup final and honestly, a player can go no where near a opposing player without giving a free kick away. Some of the free kicks being awarded are because a player tackled another player
This is not the football I loved and grew up with

Gooch made a fabulous full blooded tackle, at Hillsborough, that was wildly applauded

Free kick <doh>

This cup final is just another big team bore tbh.

i can obviously remember steel screw in studs and heavy, leather boots (proppa byuts), i also remember full blooded tackles such as the one smug just mentioned and the type kevin ball made his trade mark...what i cannot remember is players going down as if blasted with a 12 bore from close range, while screaming like a girlie and at the same time managing to look directly at the ref while waving a pretend card in the air then continuing to roll over several times still squealing only to jump up and chase the ball if no foul given.

if nothing else then VAR needs to be used to stamp out this cheating...ffs, it is a game of football so expect a few bumps and bruises, same with the commentators always making apologies in case any 'industrial language' was heard, wtf is happening to our national game or is it just so the bias becomes harder to spot?

'if there is contact it is a foul'...bollox.

'no he was not offside when he scored against (insert big six team here) but they are now looking to see if there was a foul 15 minutes earlier so they can chalk the goal off'...more bollox.

Screw in steel studs were the pinnacle in grip and support in my opinion

First cup final I have watched in years and thought it was decent. Marcus Alonso should have been MoM. But I am pleased Liverpool won because of the Chelski stain. That neither team stooped to obstruction, wrestling and shirt pulling in the penalty area, was a credit to both sides, and in sharp contrast to last nights play-off game, also played under the "control" of a Premiership Ref which was a disgrace.

i was expecting either a goal fest or a well contested 'chess game' between the two teams, in the end it was neither...they just looked like two tired teams that wanted the season over.

thought the ref did well actually but the thread was more about the 'over-acting' we see every big game now.

Football is not the same nowadays

I hate VAR. To me its swings and roundabouts, you win some, you lose some. Bollocks to this over analysis.

And as for jumping through hoops to try and get to an away match instead of just jumping on a train or whatever and paying on turnstile

And play acting fannies who fall over if you fart

I could go on................

But I get Im a dinosaur

HTFL!!

Tired I agree, but only near the end of the game imo, and not surprising the pace it was played over the first 90 minutes, and the season is far from over, especially for Liverpool.

I watched the 1970 cup final replay leeds v Chelsea today and some of the tackles were bordering on assault, mcgready on bremner in the box and nearly took his head off the ref played on even though bremner was on the ground holding his head. (mind you he deserved it). Just one of many in the 90 mins that would be straight reds nowadays. Was a man's game back then

That was football as I liked it

Atmosphere was tremendous and not a bunch of posing fannies falling over on pitch

It was Eddie Mcreadie (summat like that btw!!

Not forgetting David Webb
