I don't disagree! You'll know a lot more about who we're looking at than I do, I just hope that we get the bulk of the signings in early doors so they have a proper pre season

 

Shota wants things done early, tan wants the current players contracts sorted asap so the recruitment can start picking up speed ( current players contract talks won't stop anything, they just want them sorted so the effort can then be fully focused on new players ) I don't think we will see the end if window scramble we are unfortunately used to over the last number of years.

 

I think Luton need to go up this year, if they don’t they’ll lose a few of their better players. They could do a barnsleh next season

 

I understand that. I used to watch a lot of the Bundesliga, and the one thing that shocked me was how quick free agents got fixed up. Most of them had new clubs sorted by the end of May. It's just a stark contrast to how we do things in the UK, where nothing seems to even pick up until pre season starts.

I loved watching Dortmund and for next season they've already got 3 players done. Adeyemi to replace Haaland, along with Schlotterbeck & Sule to bolster their defence. The season isn't over yet they've done their major business for next season. There's a hell of a lot we can learn from them

 

I loved the fact he’s learnt so much about the table. He said if we say we aim for top 10 we’ll only be 3-6 points off the play offs anyway and it’d be a good starting point for us next season. Hopefully don’t need to be changing managers 10/15 games in and we can kick on now. The atmosphere today was brilliant, the fan base is ready to back it hopefully the recruitment team and owner are too.

 

I think Luton's recruitment will keep them okay. Barnsley didn't really receive a fee for the players they lost, Mowatt was out of contract and Dike's loan finished. It's so tough to replace players of that ilk without a good amount of cash

 

We did it ourselves in 2008, but it's the exception, not the rule.

 

Seems to be the way they do it in Germany. Get transfers in and out sorted before the season has even finish. Here it's a game of will they or won't they for selling, then a mad scramble to find a replacement when they do

 

I commented earlier this season that there's such a thing as going up too quickly. I'd be curious to see what happens if Luton or Huddersfield manage to go up this season, because they could get absolutely thrashed in the PL. I'd be quite happy to build solid foundations and build a strong squad over the next 18 months to go up and have the capacity to stay up.

Point being that you take promotion when it comes. You can't really schedule it. You can't pass it up either cos you might not get the chance again.

Shota got it right when he said 'if you get yourself top 10 then you're close. After that it's about going on a run and a bit of luck' .

If it happens next year you take it, but I absolutely agree we should be thinking realistically more long-term also.

 

I think we may well find a lot of their target are already well advanced and will get fixed quite quickly. It's going to be a strange season, with this break for the world cup, this could be that there will be some surprises, as it could well be a season of 2 halves, those that do well prior to the break and wish there was no interruption, and those that pick up quicker after the WC.

 

If it happens it happens I'm not going to grumble about promotion next year that would be daft. I'm just suggesting, as Shota seems to be, that we should be realistic about our expectations and not run before we can walk. Don't mortgage our future thinking we need to go all in next season, but rather be considered and methodical with our signings to improve our broader squad.

 

Just to add about going up too quickly. Even if we went up and came straight back down after one season, we’d have the benefit of parachute payments for a while. That helps with building.

 

It does, but you also have your brightest talents picked off. Granted you can reinvest that but no guarantee you reinvest well. Would rather keep a consistent squad together growing and developing.

 

Brightest talents sold for Premier League prices? No issue with that whatsoever. Career development and increasing club revenue. Gives the next wave of academy kids incentive and motivation.

 

That season in the PL sure helped Reading and Cardiff..!

 

Fulham and Bournemouth both say ‘Hello’.

 

And Norwich and Burnley.

I think there is a way of managing a season in the PL and a way of not managing it.

We seem to have done it badly a couple of times already. it can be used as a tool to push on or it can be used to turn you into Bradford.

 

Sorry but you can never go up to quickly.

It's worth the best part of £200m now and I couldn't care if we came down straight away. You can become a yoyo side like Norwich are doing and slowly and gradually build. It's a lot easier to do with PL and parachute money too.

 

Bournemouth are an interesting one. They were riding a wave of momentum, so aren't quite in the same boat as a side that had been stripped apart and rebuilt. They basically did their building at a lower level and then shot up. A bit like Southampton and others.

Fulham I don't think it needs to be said is another silly comparison as they're a side who have always been in and around the PL.

Reading and Cardiff were examples of sides that had turned over their entire squads, found themselves unexpectedly in the PL ahead of time, have had their players plucked, and are now struggling at the wrong end of the division.
