There was much talk about the premier league providing 4 finalists in Europe and after 2 nights of fairly dull football we have just 1 and they played in by far the best game this week.
Jose in a strong position to resume his record of winning a trophy at every club he’s managed only stain being trophy shy Spurs says more about us than him as I long suspected
He had more than a subtle dig at us in his press conference today... FWIW, I do believe we might have beaten City with him in the dugout, but that would then have led to him being given another season - an eventuality I simply couldn't bear to think about.
Kicked the ball at a ballboy for no apparent reason: https://streamja.com/yQrQJ What a twat. Tried to make a joke of it, too:
Did not see the Roma game. Was it as big an emotional roller-coaster as the Ajax/Spurs game ?? "The fetish is strong." And is the concise apposite word we have long been searching for.
That awkward silence when he cracks the 'joke' and everyone in the room is like 'this isn't funny'. Bearing in mind "everyone in the room" is a collection of morally bankrupt journalists yet still not even a chuckle, he has plumbed new depths of bad humour.
I see Arteta has been given a new contract which runs until 2025. Bizarre timing. Surely they should wait until the end of the season? There's an outside chance they could miss out on CL football. Is 5th and no trophies after £150m spent really the sort of progress that warrants a new deal? Why the rush? @BrunelGunner help me out.
I can see pros and cons to it. I said on their board not so long ago I’d have waited til the end of the season to decide. CL - renew contract EL - keep on current, decide at end of next season No euro footy - sack Realistically they’re not dropping beyond 5th barring a terrible run of results so I suppose giving him a new deal allows for planning for next season as well as stability. On the flip side, he is still a very inexperienced manager and Arsenal - for as painful as it is saying it - are a huge club who shouldn’t be aiming for just scrapping for fourth/ fifth, this was essentially a failure during the Wenger reign so I guess it boils down to Arsenal’s aspirations and whether they feel Arteta can exceed them or just meet them.
That sounds like an initiative by Arteta or his agent to gain an improved contract before the risk of not getting 4th plays out. On the other hand it may be the club getting him to sign before his hand is strengthened by having CL football. Either way there is an imperative to do the deal before the final conclusion of 4th or 5th place solidifies.
Ranger Tier 3; it's incredible. Just the small matter of 10 league titles between the two clubs. Only in England could this happen.
