Why? He would be an awful appointment

Devils advocate...

If Nick had not been sacked by the spiteful Allams, would his career have taken another path/continued as a manager/coach? Did it make him just throw the towel in before he got started?

P.S. Dean Windass is a nob on a personal level (on so many levels), Nick is not. Just saying.

From what I've been told, nick never really wanted to get into coaching/management and did it because it was us and the allams really wanted him to do it ( no idea how true that is ) but he's had opportunities since he left us that he has turned down as had zero interest.

He was a great player but no way should he even be considered as a manager to take us forward. I'd even question his involvement as a coach at this stage. But it's absolutely fantastic that's he's involved in a night like this and the club in general

He struggled to coach the Wyke college team once a week as much as I was in awe every time he took a session

I bought Richard Gardham's book the Decade at the time it was published and saved it for a time when I had time to read it. That time just came when I was stuck in Cambodia with this virus. A wonderful book and one passage Richard wrote which I thought summed up the difference between Nick and Deano.

I quote.

NICK REPRESENTED THE HULL WE LIKE TO SHOW OUTSIDERS, THE SUNDAY AFTERNOON WALK AROUND THE MARINA, THE CAPPUCCINO IN THE CAFE AT FERENS ART GALLERY, THE TRIP TO SEE THE NEW JOHN GODBER PLAY AT SPRING STREET THEATRE. DEAN REPRESENTED A DIFFERENT, BUT EQUALLY WONDERFUL - SIDE OF THE SAME CITY. THE 10 PINTS IN CHEESE ON A SATURDAY NIGHT, THE PATTY AND CHIPS, THE LIAISON WITH THE 32 YEAR OLD GRANDMOTHER ROUND THE BACK OF TOWER.

I thought this summed them up to a tee, both endearing in their own special ways.

Blimey, have the tickets sold already? I can't get one - says there aren't enough left!
