Don't worry, Will, I wasn't thinking you were having a go and I respect your passion in respect of this topic. I doubt the therapy works anyway but, if it did, I guess I wouldn't (say) object to forcibly subjecting a *****phile to it, for example. I would certainly have sympathy with someone with *****phile tendencies wanting to be 'cured' of them. If we're accepting that members of the LGBT (and whatever other letters are added to them these days) community are born that way, then I personally wouldn't rule out the possibility that some (emphasis on 'some') *****philes may also be born that way, so I'd have some sympathy if they'd want to explore any method to keep their urges at bay.

Thanks and yeah because the therapy has strong roots in torture it doesn’t really work, when people hit that point where they can’t take it anymore they’ll just say anything to make it stop.

Very good point on *****philes. I genuinely believe they are born that way, can’t think other than sociopathic types, anyone would choose to do something that is universally seen as the worst thing you can do.

I’ve seen documentaries where some have been chemically castrated which I don’t think they said stops the feelings but the ability to act on it in that way.. but maybe doesn’t stop the desire for access to pictures, videos etc and if they want to abuse using other methods.

Sadly the natural reaction towards the bastards is pretty much the worst one as it drives them further underground.. sadly not six foot, and the ones committing are even more difficult to catch.

That, in itself, is interesting, though, isn’t it, Will?

If (emphasis on ‘if’) *****philes are born that way then wouldn’t it be consistent to be sympathetic with their condition rather than calling them bastards and wishing them six feet under? Of course, sympathy should never extend to allowing them to act in anyway to sate their appetites, but shouldn’t we be offering them help for not only their sakes, but definitely to protect children?

Impossible subject to debate objectively with many.

Absolutely agree there should be sympathy to an extent, but it’s difficult to have sympathy for someone whose actions will make such a negative impact on a child. I can’t say how their drives feel, but I’d like to think if I had those urges, no matter how strong I wouldn’t act on them. Saying that so many do so it must be more complicated than my simplistic view.

Id also like to see a more pragmatic approach of dealing with those convicted in society, when they are vilified and scared of abuse and attack they will most likely go missing and create a new identity where they’re more difficult to monitor and more likely to offend. However I’m sure my opinions and emotions would change if I had one living next door, or had one of my kids attacked. So … well yeah I have no answers.

Can I get this right...as there have been so many u turns and all at the last minute.

Conversion therapy is now banned...

....except for trans people.

If anyone is planning to transition..then you can badger them, make them jump hurdles and through Hoops, do courses and questionnaire as much as you like?

Or have I misunderstood or missed a u turn?

Wills can you help me please

Not yet banned but they were going to drop the bill that’s being put forward.

sadly Trans are still allowed to be given this therapy and excluded from the bill because… reasons. *insert some bullshit reason that will be totally changed into another reason not previously mentioned when the other reason doesn’t hold water*

So the Bill is still going forward, and hopefully it will result in the stopping of conversion therapy for everyone...except for trans people.

Got it .....so trans people have replaced black people, gays, Irish, Muslims and Travellers as the new pariahs. Sorry I need to keep up with the group of people I have to hate for no reason other than they are different ...to me

Nail well and truly hit, makes it easier to ignore the MPs 2 grand a year pay increase going through.

Presumably part of the issue involving trans people is that the process of changing gender may involve an operation making irrevocable physiological changes. A child and the adults around it need to be very sure he or she wants to change gender for the rest of their lives.

Bisexual people can choose as the mood takes them with no physical repercussions.

I believe children cannot decide much without their adult agreeing. (I know this has been contentious point with respect to the Tavistock clinic). But this law roles over to adults as well..

Nope that has nothing to do with banning conversion therapy

My partner is a clinical psychologist… a trans person is more than welcome to ask for help dealing with their life, she’d end up pointing them to someone with more experience in the specific area, but no therapist, psychologist, or any other person belonging to a professional organisation would ever try and convert them.

Since you seem to know so much, what is the reason for the government and it's advisors' reluctance to include trans people in the bill, if it's not to ensure that professionals giving advice to kids with gender dysphoria aren't caught up in the ambit of the bill and thus find themselves acting illegally?

The latest embryonic germ of Uber’s Parliamentary Manifesto, this time concocted over the last few drops of his Old Forester Kentucky Bourbon, is the growing notion that he no longer cares about the NHS and is increasingly wishing to opt out in favour of a ‘pay as you go’ model for himself.

The NHS is poor, poor, poor.

I am forced to pay thousands every year for services I simply cannot access.

A very good friend of my mother, who’s in her 90s, had a fall at her home in Norfolk this week, badly cutting her leg. Her husband, also in his 90s, couldn’t lift her because he’s slight and she’s quite large. This was about 11AM. He called an ambulance and was told one would be with him in around 3 hours. One arrived around 6PM! He wasn’t allowed to accompany his wife. He called the hospital for news around 9:30PM to learn she was still in the ambulance outside A&E waiting to go in. At 6AM he awoke to a call from some cold automoton telling him he could come collect. He’s old, confused and not hugely well himself. They had no children, sadly. Worked their whole lives, paying their taxes and the time has come for them to access some of the investment they’ve made into the NHS coffers and this is how they’re treated.

I was listening to the wireless earlier this week and the phone-in show was littered with similar stories all over the country.

Is it just me or is everything ****?
