Nope. It doesn’t stop young people seeing professional therapists. Other countries have passed similar bills, why is it so difficult in the U.K.
I think you'll find that was the reason for the reservation, not trying to turn gay people straight which was a major mistake consigned to the 1950's.
Conversion therapy still happens today, hence why the demand for the bill. If it was consigned to the 1950s there would be no call for the ban. Seems to be a lot of excuses, you’ve so far come up with 2, not enough time to discuss the bill is another, it’s been four years!! I think the community has waited long enough, there will always be excuses given as to delay/scrap, the time for excuses has gone.
So the energy price rise comes in today with the average household expected to have to pay around £700 a year more....... ..... I didnt realise that in October it is now expected to rise by yet another £600-700!! How the f--- are people going to cope with that?
Setting aside the argument as to whether conversion therapy works or not, is it not possible that some people might voluntarily want to undergo it?
Would you like to go through people using mental manipulation, both physical and mental tactics including interrogation style techniques, electric shock therapy to turn you gay?
Or an alternative response would be why would anyone want to change their sexuality? the only reasonable response to that is influences in their life has convinced them it’s wrong.. sinful, or that they’ve experienced such hostility.. for both of those the issues and changes are required by those oppressing the person not the person themselves.
Am I right in thinking this is mostly carried out by religious fruitcakes who feel they can cast out someone’s ‘gayness’ like casting out the devil inside them ? If so and it works, they could have a go at casting out my ****ishness…..something many people have tried to do but failed
Certainly a religious feel to it, but not exclusive. I think casting aside your ****ishness is a lost cause
No. I’m just asking the question. There is a broad range of people out there, many making choices that you and I wouldn’t. I wouldn’t jump out of a perfectly good aircraft, but many choose to.
Yeah don’t get me wrong I’m not having a go, yep I’m somewhat raging over all this but my rage isn’t aimed at you or anyone on here. The simple answer is does conversion therapy happen to heterosexual people to turn them gay? Would you even ask that question of a heterosexual person? The truth is you or me or anybody wouldn’t because it doesn’t happen because in society you aren’t going to be disowned by family, friends, your religion etc for being heterosexual. You aren’t going to get threatened or beaten because you love tits rather than cock. Nobody just thinks you know what I’ll go through what can be forms of torture to change who they want relationships with. Anyone who voluntary wants it is going to have suffered at the hands of others to feel this self hatred. The problem is bigotry and why we have pride parades, etc.. is it better than the 50s sure it is but better doesn’t mean good or fair.
Don't worry, Will, I wasn't thinking you were having a go and I respect your passion in respect of this topic. I doubt the therapy works anyway but, if it did, I guess I wouldn't (say) object to forcibly subjecting a *****phile to it, for example. I would certainly have sympathy with someone with *****phile tendencies wanting to be 'cured' of them. If we're accepting that members of the LGBT (and whatever other letters are added to them these days) community are born that way, then I personally wouldn't rule out the possibility that some (emphasis on 'some') *****philes may also be born that way, so I'd have some sympathy if they'd want to explore any method to keep their urges at bay.
