I'm basing my opinion on it not being staged on Chris Rocks face afterwards. He looks genuinely shocked/speechless and he's not that good an actor.

He didn't come out of it well either.

He looks like a softy and won't be booked next year, that's for sure.

Of course it looks awkward, two middle-aged blokes in suits, after a drink, fighting over nothing ...

... most family weddings and funerals I go to end like that <laugh>

The public always claim these things are staged for publicity, we like a good conspiracy theory.

I doubt the Oscars need publicity tbh, people who watch will still watch but people won't tune in next year hoping for brawls ...

... and, even if the organisers wanted it, what are the chances of them persuading Will Smith to do that?

It certainly didn't do him any good, he just looks a knacker.

I understand that the TV audiences have all but collapsed of late, now it gains World Wide attention for what, a publicity stunt. I had never heard of the comedian until yesterday but I recon it wont do him or the actor involved any harm, but the real gain is the entertainment industry and the faux ceremonials it loves and nurtures..

You may be right mate, I just think it'll all be forgotten by this time tomorrow.

thing is, will smith has been one of the biggest voices about black actors not getting recognition, then he does something this dumb (whether it was staged or not) and people will start to wonder if it was worth supporting his cause if they just going to end up slapping each other.

i actually cannot stand fresh prince but like most of his films, probably the most 'cringeworthy' thing i watched was one talk show when he had his son with him and they were erm...pushed into doing a rap duet, the band knew the exact music to play, everyone seemed to know the words and the moves they had to do yet it was meant to be unrehearsed as if they never expected it...his son did come across as a 'you know who i am' type mind.

Makes you wonder what the reaction would be if he'd hit a white man ...

...or a white man had been the one throwing the punch.

<laugh> If Will Smith was a white man.....all hell would have broken loose!
The whole world would be doing dummy slaps.....instead of taking the knee,we'd have fake slaps!

the real question is, if he was a white man would he have had the same chances in films he has had, obviously fresh prince would have been a non starter and that lead to his other roles.

so while complaining that black actors never get the recognition they deserve he really only got his start and fame due to the colour of his skin, so in that respect, being black actually helped his career.

To be fair he's a much better chance of playing Shakespeare now as well <laugh>

I see he's now apologised. Which in days gone by would have been the end of it. Today, though, once you apologise you make it even worse, they've got you. It's never forgotten or forgiven, he's admitted wrongdoing and he'll be apologising for the rest of his days.

I bet Chris Rock doesn't apologise.

Rock is a massive ****er. So I doubt it.

He's desperate for racism to endure ...

... without it I'd probably be funnier than he is.

I avoid anything he is in. He isn't a funny stand up and he's a **** "actor". Certain films I'll watch because an actor is in it, Growing up it was Arnold, Sly, Snipes,Willis, Sam Jackson etc for the action. As I got older, I noticed the acting more, Dazel,Hanks, Leo, Norton, Al P, Deniro. I've never looked at a film, seen rock was in it and thought, that'll be good.

Tickets for Chris Rock's upcoming tour sold more in 24 hours after, than in the month before. Surprise surprise eh.

No doubt Will Smith will do the chat show rounds for a while. Then some chat show will pay mega bucks for them both to be on, with the oscars organiser of course, and everyone will publicy make up and move on.

Whether or not it was staged I dont know, but all characters involved will ger richer off it.

Jim Carrey would be suing Smith for $200m if he was Chris Rock apparently.....
