The fact we are being linked to CBs, despite currently having 4 senior options, does put more weight behind the idea that one of them, likely Bednarek, will be off in the summer.

Even when rumours are just from agents trying to generate interest in their players, they usually link them to clubs that are known to be in the market for that position.

I guess similar logic applies to the link to Tete and (historically) McAtee and Carvalho.

We also have Simeu who is ripping up trees in Carlisle at the moment. Young but not far off first team involvement I would think.
Surely it is still a big leap from league two to premier league first team. Central defenders (and goalkeepers) tend to take longer to develop. I wonder where a championship loan might be more likely for next season. Surely far better than being 4th or 5th choice and getting the odd cup game and a bunch of B team games ?

Chelsea had him on the bench in a handful of Champions League games, including against Bayern. And that was last season. So can't be far off. If he has a good pre-season, then play him in the League Cup at least. But yeah, ideally a loan to Championship.

You're right in that it does take longer to develop CB's. A loan may be the best option but I doubt very much that he came here from Chelsea with that promised to him. He came here to play so I would be surprised if he's not thereabouts next season.

I expect he came from Chelsea as they sold three central defenders and he was still told he’d be absolutely noway near the squad. And he was likely behind Colwill as well who has impressed on a championship loan

I assume he would have been promised a clearer pathway - but not a guaranteed one.

It’s obviously within the interests of our future recruitment attempts to endeavour to get him closer to the first team. Hopefully it works out
