Comments surfacing regarding why Beddy wasn't playing on Sunday. Slightly ties in I guess to him having sarcastically 'applauded' the fans during a recent loss too.

Sounds like he's on his way out?

Everyone okay with that? (For what it's worth, I am, as long as we buy in).

That's my thinking too.
He's gone right down in my estimations lately. Wasn't impressed with his sarcastic clapping of the crowd but was prepared to let it slide if was an isolated incident - he's human after all and I can understand the reaction to an extent. However I cannot excuse him not being in the right frame of mind to play in an FA Cup QF. Get rid.

There ain't one. Poland have a bye in their WC qualifier as they were due to play Russia. So they're playing a couple of friendlies.

Seems a bit odd then. He’s been here awhile so maybe he just wants a change. Decent player if nothing spectacular.

Personally I find it disgusting that any fan should abuse one of their own players during a game. I mean, what sort of impact is it actually going to have on the player other than make him feel bad / pissed off? And how does it help others players who are considering a move here? I don't think I would have sarcastically clapped back though - I'd probably have opted for the middle finger ;-).

Bedders has had a couple of dodgy moments recently (as have most of the players) but looking at his career under Ralph he has been very reliable. Consistently getting in that last ditch tackle. And he's still only 25. A good squad player in my book who will always give 100% (unless he's getting a hard time from the fans).

Sadly, I've seen far too many Saints players getting that treatment down the years but thankfully most of them have gone on to become legends. Bobby Stokes, Kelvin Davis, Fraser Forster and Jason Puncheon all reacted badly when fans got on their backs but worked hard to win a place in folklore.

They're playing the winner of Sweden v Czech Rep for a place at the World Cup but that isn't until Tuesday 29th. So a massive game yeh but surely he should have been up for playing in an FA Cup QF nine days before...!!

I do agree wholeheartedly, but also think that sometimes both for a club and a player, the time to change comes about. I have a suspicion that that might be happening with Beddy right about this summer.

Given that I was open to accepting a ridiculous January offer from Newcastle (ie even before the events of the past few days/weeks), it won't come as a surprise that I'd be fine with this in the summer.

Signing a new CB would be essential, mind you.

No I don’t really want him to leave. He’s been reliable and has formed a good partnership with sally sue.

This is where Ralph needs to do some man management, if the rumour that’s just been started is true.

I agree it’s bad missing the match, but we don’t really know what’s going on behind closed doors.

I don’t know, Armstrong has a poor start to his tenure so let’s sell him in the summer. Bednarek missed a match and gets wound up by jeering fans- sell him. Ralph left a dirty coffee mug in the office…

We'll probably need two. Stephens' contract expires in June, and it doesn't look like we're rushing to extend him...and I wouldn't be, either. I'm also still fairly unconvinced that Lyanco is more than a squad player. Some quality, and quality depth, would not go amiss, particularly to hedge against the possibility that one of the additions isn't quite up to it.

I'm giving Bednarek benefit of the doubt. For Poland, this game is absolutely massive. A World Cup playoff is arguably more important than any of the games at the actual World Cup proper (for a country like Poland at least). It is certainly more important than an FA Cup quarter final (sorry but it's true).

Jack Stephens is a more than competent CB, and earlier in this season was even favoured over Bednarek. I do however think Beddie should have at least sat on the bench, just in case of injury to Stephens/Salisu.

I also don't think Ralph should have been so truthful about this situation, knowing how fickle fans are. Should have just said Jan has a 'knock' or something.

If Bednarek is for some reason not happy at the club any more, and wants to move on, then I wish him all the best. He's been a good player for us.

Football players are just as vulnerable to mental frailties as anyone. Man management and care needed. He's been solid with the occasional mistake which every defender is liable to. Top quality performances week on week would have seen him moving to 'big' club. Support from management and staff got Frazer through a sticky patch same should apply if Jan needs help.

Bedders has been almost ever present since Ralph came here and on the whole he has been pretty reliable. If he has fallen out with Ralph then that's one thing but the sarcastic clapping of idiots abusing him is another and I prefer to see players giving a bit back I just wish Big Fraser had when he was getting some.
I don't really want to see him go but if the club get a good offer and decide to cash in then I hope we get a CB who is at least as good as him.

:emoticon-0150-hands Well said StJ
Footballers work in a high pressure environment and can have their struggles
They need our support, after all they’ve often played their hearts out for us over a long period
