Thanks G. Just got in from a run so will read it in a bit. I wonder how many on here knew of the Azov Battalion and the numerous right wing militia before I mentioned them in here….anyone ? People have to understand…conflict is never simplistic
That's the problem with Nationalists, they tend to fight like dogs when the nationhood is challenged. The people who are defending Ukraine are a very broad church ( as would we be here)... the people attacking are paid soldiers
But how many? I read the article today, and from memory it was 200 strong. And when the leader moved to politics, the party got less than 2% of the national vote. So, de minimis
It has become a shining light for fascists around the world to, as the article states ‘come and wear the tshirt’ and fight. ISIS was a small movement of Muslims but inspired hatred and fear across the world, as well as condemnation from most right thinking people (correctly so)….but what was their percentage of Muslims ? Didn’t stop you and I pointing out their wrong doings.
So you have no problem with human rights abuses carried out in Ukraine against its own civilians because they are not ‘paid soldiers ?
And what brought these right wing nationalists to the fore? The invasion of Crimea by Russia (according to Reuters). So there are small and nasty fascist groups in Ukraine, but they're making no headway in a country where the president is Jewish. Putin is using it as an excuse for a further land grab.
What you do is conflate separate issues mate. No doubt there are bad/extremist people in Ukraine. No doubt there were bad/extremist people killed by Hitler's Nazis. The Nazis were still the bad guys in that conflict. Ukraine (good and bad people alike) are defending their country from an illegal invading force. I accept your points about factions within Ukraine, although they appear less significant than you often portray, but as far as the issue of the invasion is concerned, there are only good guys and bad guys imo.
So that means they get a free pass from criticism and get a free pass to abuse who the **** they want and commit atrocities and abuse ? No one, especially not me, is saying Putin and Russia are right to do what they are doing, so please don’t try that one….however I reserve the right to point out that no side is particularly’good’
No mate, and I'm really not looking for a row, but what you're doing is conflating different issues imo. Someone states something Russia has done and you say 'ah, but they're not the only bad guys'. True, but in the single issue of a country being systematically ****ing flattened, killing innocent men, women and children, the bad guys are fairly easy to spot for most people.
If the blame for the invasion was 99% Russia and 1% Ukraine, which is probably not far from the truth, you'd still say - ah, there we are. Won't take sides because Ukraine aren't particularly good.
