Good post as always G. Many reports and pictures in RT of old women being shelled in Donbas by Ukrainian Right Wing militia…and the memorial to the 100+ children killed.
Of course it will be on a pro-Russian slant but surely it should be the choice of the individual to choose what to watch….surely that’s what free speech is about ?
I’m sure the right wing fash on here will disagree
It’s interesting how ‘free speech’ has become such an iconic concept in recent years. When I was (very) young, way back in the sixties, the Lord Chancellor censored the theatre, and books (fiction) were banned in case they damaged our morals. In those days of course there were very limited ways to force your opinions on other people, if your views weren’t expressed by the main newspapers your only route was Speaker’s Corner or self financed pamphlets - not much change for centuries. However, we seemed to have very robust, relatively polite, and well informed debates and not many people felt oppressed. Especially when they tried to look over the Iron Curtain.

Freedom of thought is important, but we have so much ‘free speech’ now that the concept has become degraded in my opinion. I avoid all those platforms (well, perhaps not quite all…) where ill informed bollocks is routinely spouted by people who have plenty of opinions but no facts, coherent approach to debate, or interest in learning. If you had to pay to get a pamphlet printed before shouting down anyone who doesn’t agree with your view that the aztecs run the world via Masonic Lodges and George Soros, perhaps we’d have a more civilised discourse.

Rambling a bit, need coffee.

Well it is a right thing to do I guess……but then again, if you didn’t want to watch it then no one forced you to.
Dare one of our right wing chums on here ramble on about free speech
In this case i agree with our 'right wing' chums im sorry stainsy i disagree with you. And yes i respect your point of view. Just placing mine.

“This is the problem…..When you look at a conflict from a very myopic point of view, and you only see an underdog and a bullydog and you don’t see that actually it’s far more complex then this” - Aimen Dean

Some on here should really take note

I’m not sure it’s that much more complex. Only one side who initiated this as far as I can tell.

I see you have been taking lessons from Al Murray. You don’t seem to have this nuanced, sophisticated approach to examining the issues around the European Union……:emoticon-0109-kiss:

Doesn’t mean the whole thing hasn’t got it’s complexities and it’s good guys v bad guys. Conflict is never that simple

As an example of the top of my head, is Stalin a bad guy (most people would say Yes i imagine on this board)

where during WW2, because Hitler was the bad guy, and stalin was stopping hitler, surely that makes him the good guy?

So do you think that’s what I’m doing……? if so I’ll quite happily **** off and leave the “voices of the right” to spout their **** in the echo chamber. It really don’t bother me mate to be fair…..plenty more important things going on in my life right now.

Therefore doesn’t that in its entirety make the situation more complex….you could take any historical figure…..say Churchill for example, and have different view points from different people.

Stalin and Russia started WW2 as Allies of Nazi Germany, was only until Operation Barbarossa in June 41 where he changed allegiance.
