Stalin - who was Georgian for what that's worth - was responsible for more deaths of Soviet citizens than Hitler was. Regarding Putin, his recent actions have probably done more to cement the idea of Ukraine as a distinct nation independent of Russia, than anything Ukrainian nationalism alone could have achieved. However this tragedy ends, it appears he's driven Ukrainian sentiment and identity further away from Russia than it's ever been.
UK seen as reluctant to commit at the same level as the EU but most realise it's the government not the people. Johnson, Truss & Co regarded as a comic turn.
I wonder if this war will leave more people regretting voting for Brexit. EU seems to be really stepping up this week. I think this crisis is a real test to see if our new sovereignty helps or hinders us.
It might do but it is irrelevant really. It has gone through now and they won’t be back tracking on it
Fair enough, I guess we all deal with things differently, and i'd had enough of the point scoring whilst people are being killed and stuff
And yet - the extent of your challenge to this is “that’s bollocks”. No hint of an explanation as to why that is in your opinion As it stands the EU appear to have imposed stricter measures that the U.K. Based on that it is not unreasonable (and certainly not “bollocks”) to at least suggest that if the U.K. was still in the block, especially lead by a party that is heavily funded by the oligarchs, that they might have tried to water down the measures And that is financial. It is pretty obvious that on a humanitarian level (which I believe you were attacking people for not caring about not to long ago) we have fallen woefully short of the EU. So I sense at least a slight inconsistency Now I could be missing things that we have done that are over and above what the EU have done and would welcome to have that pointed out
Meanwhile, here’s one of my favourite Tweeters with a summary of the week’s triumphs: https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1498270373565157378.html
For the club level that only effects one at the moment I think Right decision of course. Soft power is a big thing
Bollocks to you to bilious do you realise the low regard the UK government his held? Plenty in Europe pleased to see you ****ers go.
Think people unfortunately follow the same lines. The Daily Mails headline on Saturday used the Ukraine conflict to have a pop at the ‘cowardly EU’ for example. My old man is a Brexiteer and has had a go at this showing how weak the EU is as well.
This is something that crossed my mind too. I have been quite surprised just how wide ranging the hostility towards Russia has been. The only dissenting voice I am aware of has come from Syria which should come as no surprise.
