Acceptable apart from The Beetles. They were a pre-pubescent girlie manufactured boy band that wrote music by numbers with ****ing god awful twee lyrics. The MOST overrated band, period. Utter pile of doggy doings. There were far better bands in the 60's that weren't aimed at 13/14 year old girlies.

The other bands did not begin with B. I put The Hollies for H. There were a whole host of other acts I could have put for several letters. I could have put Garth Brooks for B as you have probably heard of him.

Some people have posted (what I consider) lists full of bilge from the 90s but personal tastes in music were not specified in the original question, just the 26 letters of the alphabet. If everybody liked the same thing the music industry would not exist. People of different ages like music of different eras: mine were the 60s, 70s and 80s. I would not expect a 30 year old to agree as they were not born. How long until someone comes up with the A-Z of rappers?

If I could have got away with Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky, I would... Strictly I could have put Rachmaninov because I have a CD of him playing his own piano works that was transcribed from a wax cylinder or some similar sort of pre-vinyl recording mechanism. Or how about Vladimir Ashkenazy? There will be some Googling going on for some of these names that won’t be familiar this side of The Pond. I have an inventory of my massive CD/vinyl collection so all but 3 letters were simple. For those I resorted to anyone that was on a ‘Various Artists’ collection. Shame I could not put Idina Menzel for I – you will know the one song – but she is outnumbered by the brothers anyway with three tracks.

Abba
Beatles, The
Carpenters, The
Diamond, Neil
Estefan, Gloria
Fleetwood Mac
Gayle, Crystal
Hollies, The
Isley Brothers, The
Joel, Billy
Krauss, Alison
Lady Antebellum
Mattea, Kathy
Newton-John, Olivia
Orbison, Roy
Pitney, Gene
Queen
Rush, Jennifer
Strait, George
Tillis, Pam
Ultravox
Vega, Suzanne
Womack, Lee Ann
XTC
Yearwood, Trisha
ZZ Top

If I had put a duo known by their surnames then how would they qualify? Brooks & Dunn? Simon & Garfunkel?

Have you ever hear of Massive arrogant condescending twat?

I think you'll love them.

Why do you feel someone needs to be born to enjoy a certain era of music? Your first condescending post included the likes of Tchaikovsky...Were you born when he was recording?

You need to go back and look at your original hypothesis. Tchaikovsky died in 1893 so there are no recordings, so recordings by various orchestras since then do not count.

I suspect that most people born in recent years did not listen to their parents’ music so they would not list their artists on here.

How stupid are you? Incredibly is the answer.

I know plenty of younger people that love music from before they were born.

My daughter is one example, her favourite music is mainly from the 60's, 70's and 80's.

Another example is favourite films and comedy acts. My favourite films are 30's, 40's and 50's black and white Hollywood films. Laurel and Hardy are my all time favourites of comedy. All of which were done long before I was born. It was my parents that got me interested in all of this.

Same with telly, this modern stuff is better produced using state of the art equipment but it lacks in the one thing that made old telly work and that is raw acting/comic talent. It can’t be coached either.
