Went to a funeral in Hull a while back of a lad I had known since 1969 through City. Much talk of City at the bar afterwards. Discussion of the pros and cons of the Allams. Two of his ex workmates said it wouldn't have mattered a bit if City had gone under as there are plenty of other teams to support.. Like who I asked. My response that that sort of attitude was why Hull City would always have difficulty. I said try saying that in Sunderland and see the response you get. Same goes for the other teams I mentioned as well. All 3 of them have a lot closer clubs than us as well. Same goes for the likes of Burnley, Bolton, Blackburn and a host of other places.
Just using the names you have used there Barchullona... does anyone think its partly a historic thing... our clubs history isn't as deep seated as those clubs?/.

Leeds United are newer than us. Liverpool, Man Utd, Man City, Arsenal, Chelsea came after the ones I mentioned. Hull had 2 rugby league teams established before we had a football one. Having said that most of those clubs were only in existence for 20 years or less before us, not much difference when taling of well over a century.

But theres a common denominator there isn't there.... success... we have only had relative success in the recent past. Even Man City's supporter base only really took off with the new stadium and investment... Lets hope Acun and his team can deliver something to be proud of...

True. But Ric was another who said the teams whose crowds have been higher are because of season passes and there is a low walk up because of it being January, times are tight, no one with any money...Well, to take Middlesbrough as an example, somewhere similar 5o Hull with similar problems. There were 13,000 at the Riverside early in the season for our visit. When the played Stoke at the end of January there were 23,000 there. So, unless Stoke took 9,000 more there than we did there were a fair few walk ups. Boro also had 9,5000 at Manchester having to leave work or school early for a Friday night televised game. We have a new owner and all the buzz and virtually no difference.
I don't think the pubs and clubs will have been empty on Friday and Saturday so there is money. It is just that not enough decide to spend it on going to watch the local football club.
Fair point Barca:emoticon-0148-yes: Can't argue with facts.

Well, Maine Road was the largest league stadium in the country for years and their crowd of over 84,000 is the largest for a football league stadium.

Didn’t think we were that bad at all really. In spells yes and that period at the start of the second half when they scored was bad but on the whole that game could have gone either way and any result would have been deserved by whoever got it. We had plenty of chances to win it but didn’t take them, they had a few too and managed to take one.

We dust worselves down and we go again next week.

Should change your name to 'Amin Cloudcuckooland' if you think that game could've went either way.
They had us well and truly sussed out and fair play to them..We huffed and puffed but looked a bit flat .New faces are in the building,Arveladze will put his own stamp on it and we'll take it from there.

They deserved their win, their support was loud and proud and we do indeed dust worselves down for a tough one on Tues night:emoticon-0148-yes:U.T.T!

Yes. Could have gone either way. We had our chances, we got in to dangerous positions. On another day…

I like the fact we kept ourselves in the game as long as we did but we didn’t test them near enough in the final third despite cutting them open so early on. We were never out the game but there was only ever going to be 1 winner.

I support Hull City & Hull FC in equal measure both have given me fantastic moments.
As a kid when learning about the club what always amazed me that a City of our size had never played in the 1st Division / Premier League and have won **** all.
Hull is a fairly poor City and I am not surprised that those in the East Riding chose to Glory hunt In the 80’s & 90’s in particular.
I remember at school in the 90’s getting laughed at for supporting City.
What I find a huge shame is the Allam legacy which should have resulted in a real love for the club because whether we like it or not it was the most successful time in our history.
I feel like we are back at square one prior to the Alam takeover.
This season is done bottom 6 finish hopefully in the summer with strong recruitment we are one of the favourites to go up and people become excited about following the club.
Floating supporters won’t watch a team in 19th place who got beat by Preston in the last game languishing in the Championship.

Other cities are poor but their residents don't glory hunt elsewhere. Problem is we have 2 rugby clubs where glory in a smaller pool is easier to come by. In fact Hull rugby should have had more success when you look at the success places smaller than Scarborough have had in RL. A lot of people go to rugby and adopt another club, always the same few, to be involved in discussing the bigger sport at work and in tbe pub. They then actively wish their local football club to fail. A situation you don't get elsewhere, they either go to their local club, or don't, depending on success, finances etc. Used to go to rugby myself when City weren't playing. That stopped after the Brentford game.
As for poor, poverty was always given as a reason for fanatical support as a release from the everyday misery. The favella dwellers in Brazil, the poor in Naples, Glasgow and also the Liverpool of the 1960s. Things certainly have changed.

Fair point the Hull rugby clubs have underachieved. And like you say other poor Cities have better support than City.
I don’t know what the answer is.

And, nowadays it is too expensive to use football as an afternoon's cheap escape from drudgery and hardship. It puts you further into it. When I first started going to City the cost of entry was about a quarter to a third of the train fare from Brid. Even the special buses were more than the entry ticket. Now the cost of entry is over twice the rail fare. Entrance was the cost of about 3 pints. You can buy a few pints even now in Hull for £27.

If Eaves' header went in we'd probably have won. We nearly always do when we go ahead. We nearly always lose when we go behind. It's always easy in hindsight to say we were ****, sussed etc after a defeat. That's the reaction every time we lose. Reality is we're a side that's very good in some situations but pretty **** in others. Shota will need to work on making us better after we go behind. Being better on the ball is a big part of that I think. Maybe the new signings will help or maybe it's more of a coaching thing that he'll work on over time. I think passing football was always a weakness of this team under McCann.

Shota is clearly an attack minded coach and I am sure he can help the forward line improve.

I don't know about others, but I would like to see a defensive coach brought in, whether his assistant is that I am not sure. I also would like to see Tom Hudd stay as a midfield coach, I'm sure he could bring a lot of experience in that area?
