It was. Quite frankly I'd be surprised if we did any business with Newcastle going forward full stop. Personally, I'd rather give him to the skates for free than sell him to those bastards.

Not sure I’d go that far, but I agree with the general principle.

News bite says Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard is monitoring Atletico Madrid striker Luis Suarez 35 would we nibble at that?
 
If Suarez went to Villa it would only be because of Gerrard, same as Coutinho would not have given Villa a second thought (or even a first thought) had it not been Gerrard calling him. And even then, his wages are likely triple our highest earner. And even then that would be a very short term bit of business that you only make if you have money to burn. Never going to happen!

Pretty much sums it up. He is the sort of player we maybe would have signed (or tried to sign) last summer before everyone became interested given he is a free agent

Hopefully we are good enough at spotting the next ones

The only thing we have on those other teams is that we will likely be able to offer more first team football. But it really won’t be enough. Especially as he is a free agent so can sign a massive contract. He will be getting 100k a week at least on his next deal I expect
