I love the way that Docherty carries the ball out of the defensive third of the pitch - his distribution is sometimes erratic but he's a developing player and when he deals with this aspect of his game he's going to step up from his current standard (good Championship level box to box midfielder) to a really high level. I think his strength and energy are a vital component of our current team.

He’s got an engine on him and he’d be an asset for a lot of Championship teams. He just needs to improve the technical side of the game.

To me, he’s almost like the polar opposite of Tom Huddlestone. Huddlestone has always been a deep-lying playmaker whose passing and composure on the ball is world-class, but he’s not the most agile of players and isn’t the sort of player who covers every blade of grass in midfield.

Doc on the other hand grafts his bollocks off every game and is a nuisance in midfield, always looking to win the ball back and drive it forward for his team. However, his passing can be sloppy at times and he lacks composure on the ball, almost like he’s ‘too busy’ for his own good. I think Docherty can only get better though, and if he improves on his distribution and other technical abilities, he’ll make a fine box-to-box midfielder at this level and even higher.

Spot on, can't forget he's a goal scoring midfielder by trade, but hes doing majority of the sides dirty work to let Honeyman flourish further up, he is vital to how Mcann plays.

Every team needs one or two grafters in their team, take Nobby Styles for instance, does the dirty work and gives it to those who can spray the 50 yard passes. Both Doc and Smallwood are in that mould. If you're suggesting Doc does the same amount of work but also has the ability to pass through the eye of a needle you're talking about someone of the worth of Kante. He does a job for us, and is a real asset.. he will have the off day with his passi g game, but my gawd you can't fault the lads engine. We have to be realistic, he's here because he is young and is still learning his craft.

Sometimes we just see ‘flaws’ weaknesses in players game or techniques that we hope can be improved on because we want them to be better for their sake and ours - well I do . Doch like Meyler doesn’t tend to look left or right and rushes a little - but if he did !! At his age he can improve , at Hudds age he is t going to run faster !

Agreed. I’ve been guilty of it myself before but City fans (and probably football fans in general) often see their own players as either world-beaters or dogshit with no nuance. Docherty is a solid player but he does have areas to improve his game. This also applies to Greaves, KLP, Wilks etc. but also former players.

If Greaves put a couple KG of muscle and was a bit nastier he'd be snapped up in an instant by Premier League clubs, he is phenomenal for his age. If we had signed Curtis this summer he'd be even better as when it comes to fundamental defending there's not many better then Curt, and that'd have rubbed off on him.

KLP had a very good game yesterday think he works very well close to the striker picking up Eaves touches, drawing fouls and getting shots away. Can never fault his work rate just another who needs a bit of guidance from a seasoned player at this level or higher for his decision making. He frightened the life out of Cahill yesterday, and I doubt many have done that to him this season.

Yeah, I’ve said several times before, including last season, that Greaves could do with bulking up. KLP is also a very talented player but there’s aspects of his game that need to improve too. We have a very young, inexperienced but clearly talented squad. I don’t think it’s negative or unreasonable to highlight areas where our most promising players like Doc, Greaves and KLP could improve to be the best they can.

It's the way forward in football these days, hopefully we can keep them for at least next season and hopefully fire ourselves up the league so that they want to stay as we are being ambitious as I recall Bowen would've stayed if we had genuine promotion hopes in his eyes.

Bowen is a good example of what our most talented players should aspire to. Even when he first broke into our first team and was scoring goals, Bowen could be a bit one-dimensional at times (cut in on his left foot from the right). But he only ever got better with us as time went on and he’s gotten even better at West Ham.

Bowen was told to work on his right foot during his first close season which he did to dramatic effect, then told to work on his heading during his second close season, which again he did. He has the work ethic to succeed, a few of the younger lads with us now need to follow that example, the harder you work the better you become.

I do see the point being made, Docherty has made a few errors in recent games. He’s done loads of good stuff too, and to say he’s been our worst player is a stretch. You could make a case that that has been Bernard, who has been very panicky in the last two games.

But being the poorest performer in a side that has just put in two incredible team performances is a bit meaningless. They’ve all been superb.
Agree with this.
Not sure why someone is looking for negativity when we have just had the best two results of the season in the best week for a very long time.
Its a team game and every one of them had played their part.

The 2 Turkish strikers we are linked too, any mileage in that? Or is it newspaper talk?

One as of when I last heard, yes. The vast majority of what has been posted/linked to is just people putting 2 + 2 together and hoping for a click

The aim as far as I'm aware is 4 tops in this window and then contract sorted for a number of the squad
