Absolutely!! Always came across as fairly 'deep' in his acting roles.I had a particular liking for his acting in 'the wild geese'.He was brilliant in The Flight Of The Phoenix - a 60s classic of men crash landed and stuck in the desert with Kruger (an aeroplane builder**) as the man to fabricate a working plane to fly them out; fifty years old and still worth watching.
**Not added to much, in case anyone wants to watch it!
RIP Mr Loaf

James Stewart was the pilot, and in real life flew 20 bomber missions over Germany in WWII, and one over North Vietnam in 1966.I have just put the film on again now and in 1st 5 minutes i realised just how many major actors from that era where in this movie that are no longer with us, today it would be like putting every A list actor in one movie and it being a blockbuster.
