Totally agree. He never got a fair crack here, shame.That’s one of my biggest gripes about Johnson last season, preferred to play people completely out of position than give one of the kids a chance. We were so bad it was worth a risk.

Not sure this has been mentioned. What if Defoe wants some guarantees over playing time. He seems to be saying wants to finish playing in front of crowds before coaching. Maybe we arent in a position to guarantee that, and nor should we. At 39 and with minimal football in the last 2 years I do wonder how much he would contribute on the pitch. Impact sub for us perhaps, or perhaps a starting spot elsewhere? Might tilt the balance for him?

Yeah mate. Just with us I think he would find it harder to earn than say at Charlton. All just surmising on my part.
