Texas synagogue hostage-taker was known to MI5: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-60038207 "A British man who took four people hostage at a synagogue in Texas had been investigated by MI5. Malik Faisal Akram, from Blackburn in Lancashire, was the subject of an investigation in late 2020 but by the time he flew to the US he was assessed to be no longer a risk." Well, that was a **** assessment, wasn't it?
Not sure what you expect MI5 to do, they have around 4,000 people on their lists, it becomes an impossible task and most of his convictions were from the 1990's. If you stopped every one from travelling that had violence listed as a record, we'd be following a hell of a lot of Brits.
It's the amount of stuff they do that you don't hear about that is the key. Literally stopping hundreds of threats becoming a reality through good intel. There's always going to be one nutter who falls through the net, that's just the nature of the beast.
Yup. Thing is the whole situation with this particular guy was unusual, I just don't know how you do filter out people who wish harm to others, who hover just around the radar. The mans family are kicking up a bit of a fuss, so why didn't they do something, always easy to point the finger at others.
I haven't really looked at this case, but it must be a nightmare trying to assess who poses an actual risk as opposed to a hypothetical one. I guess there is some kind of assessment matrix that governs these things, past behaviour, ideation, access to weapons, associates etc But unless somebody is hell bent on doing something crazy (where I guess the signs would be more obvious) then trying to predict human behaviour is never going to be an exact science.
All I know is he is a Brit with family in Blackburn and he travelled out to the states 4 weeks ago. He'd been in trouble in the 1990's and sometime around 2012. My guess and it's nowt more than that, that any extreme tendencies were due to his last stay in prison. Why that synagogue, seems totally random and weird, but probably has a story behind it.
Kill 77 people and be up for parole in 10 years? That's roughly 47 days and 12 hours per murder. That's erm.... kind of.... ****ed up tbh.
I think when he does that nazi salute, someone should just walk up and kick him in the bolloxs, don't understand why that is even tolerated. Too fooking soft with these nutters.
My 19 Yr old daughter just told me that in Norway the maximum sentence is 21 yrs...looked it up and , **** me, she's right https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/And...sentenced to 21,the maximum penalty in Norway.
Went to an island where a load of kids/youths were having camp and just went round shooting them all. You must remember that ?
That is the price you pay for having a soft centered democracy where everyone has their human rights protected
That ****ing annoys me, human rights are at best something we are all born with or earn, twats like this have give up their "rights" by their actions.
