Very disciplined innings from SA as they chase down 211 to win the series clinching test. India's top order batsmen failed to function in either the second or third tests. For me Kohli has rarely delivered for the past year and is not in the class of Smith, Root, Richardson, Head.
Hants sign Brown on 2 year deal. Excellent business. Ben Brown: Hampshire sign former Sussex captain on two-year deal - BBC Sport
So our CC line up at the moment (with one space for an overseas player, I presume a bowler) looks like: Holland Weatherley/Alsop Donald/Prest Gubbins Vince Brown Dawson Barker Abbott Overseas Wheal/Crane Our top order is still quite weak but our middle order is now rock solid. Gubbins, Vince, Brown and Dawson is as good a middle order as you'll see anywhere I think.
We've effectively made one signing for CC and One Day cup and one for T20 and we've managed to upgrade all 3 teams significantly. Quite impressive.
Very, very, very pleased. If we can get Abbas back (Pakistan's availability looks very good), I'll be very excited about the season ahead. Even more so if Weatherley can finally break through in red ball cricket, in the same way that he has in white ball (is he an outside bet for the 100 this summer?).
Well, that was ….. errr ….. interesting. Woeful batting from England again. I reckon they just fancied another day off. BIG changes needed …… I’m lost for words ……
It is absolutely woeful. Part of the problem is in the mindset. Time to say goodbye to oñe or two players as test players, find a solid first five, a world class spinner, play the best keeper, and allow Stokes time to recupérate mentally as well as physically, and perhaps find a new captain with fresh ideas.
I was having a lie-in nursing my post match hangover when I saw the target as the England innings started, thought about getting up but decided not to fearing the what is now inevitable collapse, 68-0 to 124 all out in 23 overs a ****ing nightmare performance.
Not going to try and make excuses for a very disappointing tour, but feel for Joe Root. Just watched his dismissal and the ball he received was a daisy cutter.
We should really give up on red ball down under (Aus). We just can’t compete & I don’t think it’ll change for a long, long time, if ever.
I was saying to my Dad that it is starting to sound like how the Ryder Cup got when it was just GB vs USA. No chance, ever
Yep, we don’t have the players & our game development is totally geared to limited overs & that’s not going to change in the foreseeable. I’m sure we can remain a test force & give the Aussies a good game here but down under has gone. Big shame.
Why not? Fully vaccinated and tested as the attendees also should have been is the way to the new normal.
The problems we had were partly down to COVID, in that insufficient warm up games were arranged. Having said that, until the red ball game is given more importance in England, we will never win in Australia, and will struggle against them at home.
