In the olden days when English cricketers were on six month contracts and had to get a job for the winter quite a few went to Oz to play grade cricket. I had a mate who played for Somerset for years who played for Fremantle CC for a season or two. Now they have a minimum wage for playing county cricket (£27,500 pa, cut to £24k during the pandemic) which is hardly generous but a lot more than they used to get. England players now get up to £650k for a Test central contract, £300k for a white ball contract and up to £200k end of season bonus. Which is clearly working ****ing brilliantly, why would they bother to improve themselves? Especially when they get IPL and Big Bash cash chucked at them as well.
Wow. Pat Cummins, for example, gets A$550,000 per year as a retainer to play for Australia and then A$20k for a test match, A$15k for a ODI and A$10k for a T20 game similar low levels for state v county cricket and Big Bash contracts of up to A$250k. Your cricketers seem to get paid a lot more than ours.
South African Gary Kirsten throws his hat into the ring, he coached India & South Africa to no1 in the world
Has applied for the post twice before, but didn't get it because he only wants to oversee the test team and leave the other formats to someone else. His stance hasn't changed, but could be an interesting candidate.
Don’t worry ole mate. It clearly shows that our guys can only afford the base model Mercedes’ whilst your lot can pick & choose leather upgrades on the premium models. It’s a gross injustice l say.
ICC Cricketer of the Year 2021? https://www.icc-cricket.com/news/2433841 Not bitter at all that there is only one Australian in all the nominees, no not in the slightest. The category that got me though was: But, as I say, not even a little bit bent out of shape, no sir. You wouldn't find me quoting the ICC's ranking back at them
