What are your views on Fernando Torres?

Torres is a European and World Champion, he's the fastest player in Liverpool's history to score 65 league goals in a short time and he is a proven premiership footballer.

Ok Torres didn't have the best of games against Liverpool last weekend but I think it was that Liverpool put 3 markers around him and kicked Torres at every opportunity he got the ball. Against Fulham this Monday Torres will have more space to score and that goal will be the first of many Chelsea goals.

Mainly Liverpool fans and anti-chelsea people say Torres is past his best. I find this statement foolish. The man is 26 years young in his prime/peak years of football. Torres is the same age as Cristiano Ronaldo and those people don't say Cristiano is past it. Liverpool fans and anti-chelsea are just bitter and jealous because Fernando Torres the best striker is now playing for the mighty Chelsea.

Chelsea bought Torres from Liverpool for a bargain at £50m because when Benitez was Liverpool manager he said Torres is worth £70m.

A fit Torres with his head right is the nearest thing your see to Didier Drogba anywhere in the world today. He is a fantastic striker and will win everything with Chelsea but I wouldn't expect too much this year as it will take Ancelotti time to get the playing with rags out of his system first before he can play effectively again.

Fernando Torres will come good for Chelsea, not sure why so many have chosen to judge his whole Chelsea career on 60 minutes of football or compare him to Andriy Shevchenko.

If you put yourself in Torres's shoes just after the world's press have probed you for being sold at a record fee & are then expected to play against the team you just left....& put in a display

Aint gonna happen - on another day he may have slotted the early chance he had & then done nothing the rest of the game - got subbed on the hour & the game ends 1-1

I doubt the press would have lauded him as worth the money even for that...

When the drog has vacated his spot in the Chelsea dressing room in summer & gone back to Marseille - then we'll see what Torres is made of

By then we'll also be looking to bring class striker No2 in & a world class midfield playmaker as Lamps is past his best now

Just gotta hope we can scrape a CL place this term so we can attract such players

I think Torres is a world class player, but not sure if he's the type of player Chelsea really need right now. On paper, Chelsea probably have the best squad in the league. But on the pitch you seem to lack urgency and the team isn't working for each other like it has done in the past. Maybe too many players have gotten too comfortable (possibly also old) and have allowed themselves to get a bit lazy after the huge success you had last year?

If that's the case, then Torres isn't really what you need. He works better when surrounded by players who are working their socks off to get him the ball. I didn't see much of the game last night, but what I did see suggested that he wasn't trying all that hard, wasn't concentrating when key chances fell to him, and seemed pretty disinterested, just like for some games against lower clubs when he was at 'pool.

He seems to me to be a big game player, but one who doesn't put the effort in to get wins when the team is struggling against mid table teams and needs a result. And at the end of the day, seasons are usually won and lost by who picks up more points from the games against mid table teams.

That said, the bastard will probably score against us in both games and Chelsea fans will all love him for it...

He was brilliant for Liverpool for about 2 seasons, and then realised it was all heading south.

Some may say that's unprofessional, but someone of his calibre wants to be at a club that's challenging for honours.

Fingers crossed we get into the top four at some point<whistle>

I don't wum, unlike some ginger-marked muppets and I rarely read other boards. (My mum's a lifelong Chelsea fan so I can wind her up if I feel like it.)

Fact is I had to come over here to see the reaction to last night's performance because there's nothing on the Liverpool board. We don't seem to care nearly as much as some give us credit for.

We've had concerns for a while, albeit as we tried to defend him. He can be injury-prone, for which we went on a worldwide search to find the best sports medicine people to deal with. You appear to have a medical team which can't even spot a bout of malaria. (Okay, that was a bit wummy.)

Our Doc Brukner said Torres has been scared to push himself to 100% because of those injuries. He was just beginning to get his confidence in his body back because our docs have a lengthy pre-training injury prevention regime, and now that's something your docs will have to deal with.

I don't think the Torres/Drogba/Anelka conundrum is your main problem, anyway. You've got a renegade owner, who seems out of sync with the quality manager who did the double the season Hodgson got LMA Manager of the Year, or simply unconcerned with his opinion. Something's got to give. I believe some of your less patient fans are already demanding Carlo go, which is the only thread about you on our board today.

We may have blown some of that £50m on Caroll and paid over the odds (which our owners have shown they're prepared to do for the right guy) but at least that was a player Kenny actually wanted and it seems obvious Suarez and Caroll looks a more sensible pairing than Drogba and Torres.

I'd been disappointed rather than delighted at your problems this season (despite my p***taking on our board when Ginger No-mark shows up) because we all thought you'd be the ones to stop Utd getting that 19th title this season. It's quite unsettling to have to rely on Arsenal now and of course I now have to wind my mum up about us nicking 4th off you.

As I see it pal your lot were giving it large about Torres so I gave them a little bit back about your overpriced Pikey. So don't come on here all indignant with stones in your hand because your very likely get them back.

I think he has every right to want to be at a club that's challenging for honours. But I think he wants to be at a club that will win major honours easily every season, like Barca or Real do in Spain, so he can concentrate on playing in the big games. That doesn't happen as much in England, as Chelsea are showing this season, Utd showed in 1994/95, and Arsenal showed in 1998/99 - double winners in the previous season, but all failed to win anything the following season (ok, Chelsea's season isn't over yet, but I think the PL is gone gone gone).

I don't think Torres has the mental strength to fight for honours over the course in a long season. Particularly not after he came so close in 2009 and fell short - he seems to not want to put the effort in and risk missing out again.

The thing about strikers is that many of them tend to have one or two exceptional seasons, and suddenly the world is expected of them (Rooney, Adebayor, Santa Cruz, Benni McCarthy) Torres falls into that category, in my opinion.
He had an outstanding spell in his first two years on Mersyside, but that was him at his fittest, sharpest and best.

When he arrived in England, though his name wasn't known, his abililty was fully anticipated, and he was was impossible to read or contain. Defenders have wised up to him much more now and are more physical with him. Seems like he is almost a victim of his own success.

I feel sorry for him, much like Rooney the weight of expectation is so heavy on him.

I hope he gets back to his best though, he's a top, top talent.

I don't think Torres is worth the money paid out for him and if I'm totally honest I think it was a real bad buy for Chelsea. He can be moody and has a tendency to be injured a lot. There are far better players out there for the fee paid!

When he is focused he's the best striker in the world imo, however even when he wasn't injured he started to be a bit of a moaner and just didn't want to dig in when things were not going his way. His attitude at Chelsea is the same as before he left Liverpool and unless Chelsea make goals for him and challenge for major honours he will continue to be disinterested on the pitch. Long gone is the Torres of the first season at Liverpool! A good example would be Reading in the cup in his first season they kicked lumps out of him in the first half and he didn't react. In the 2nd half he scored a hatrick. If he was to play that game now he would bitch and moan his way through the game and not score at all.

If I'm honest, I think this media **** about Drogba going is exactly that.

By the end of the season, we would've seen exactly what the three main strikers are capable of together.

    And I dunny like it!

Drogba's WAY off form. While Torres is not exactly scoring goals as of yet, he is getting better each game.
