Jesus Christ are you always this sensitive ? It was meant to be a laugh . If you’d sent a pic of an actual sign on a door then my moans would have been unjust . You are exactly what makes participating on this site a real disappointment at times - so quick to call people . You really need to chill out and not assume people are having a go . I wasn’t but there are those on here who would eff about with a pic for fun to score one.

Plans to rebuild Hull's famous Earl de Grey pub have been confirmed - but it's not yet clear who will be doing the work.

The historic Grade II listed pub was demolished 12 months ago to allow access for contractors working on the A63 upgrade project in Castle Street.
The pub, which dates back to the 1840s, had previously been empty for over a decade.

Under approved plans, a scheme is in place to reconstruct a large part of the pub 40 yards away in Waterhouse Lane using reclaimed bricks from the original building as part of a development linking it to the refurbished Castle Chambers office building and close to a proposed new 150-bed hotel.

However, revised proposals to vary those plans to rebuild the shell of the pub using modern insulated cavity walls while using reclaimed bricks on two main external elevations have yet to get the go-ahead from city council planners.

The revised plans were submitted after project developers Castle Buildings LLP, part of the Hull-based Wykeland Group, said the 400 bricks salvaged during the demolition were not enough to allow for a solid masonry reconstruction.

Most that have been saved are the pub's distinctive green-glazed bricks which will eventually be restored to the front of the building.

Speaking at a city council scrutiny meeting, National Highways' A63 scheme project manager Fran Oliver confirmed the intention was to rebuild the pub but said it had yet to be agreed who would carry out the construction.

She said the re-build was part of the original consent for the wider on-going A63 improvement scheme in Castle Street.

"Ultimately, we are responsible for the Earl de Grey because it is a condition of our consent.

The owners of the building are Castle Buildings LLP and we have provided them with a timeframe to carry out the re-build within our construction programme.

"If they cannot manage the development in that time envelope, then we will build it ourselves.

"We are meeting again with them next week about this and hopefully we will be able to share more information after that."

Whether it eventually re-opens as a pub remains to be seen.

Was in there earlier, after picking away shirts up from City, and as I was coming out (leave it, daft bastard Hatem :emoticon-0100-smile) I overheard a bloke say to his wife "shall we go somewhere more normal like Heron?"
Oddly he had quite a refined accent. :emoticon-0100-smile
