The original Birmingham was officially established in 1166, although the Beormingas tribes settled in the area and named it ‘Beormingham’, in 600 AD.

The city’s “Brum” nickname has its origins in the city’s former name, Brummagem, which is itself thought to be derived from the name, “Bromwich-ham.”

Birmingham is the greenest city in England, with around 600 public parks covering over 8,000 acres of open space. Birmingham has more open spaces than Paris. Sutton Park is the largest urban park in Europe.

In 1854 Birmingham chemist Thomas Allcock invented the plaster cast for broken bones.

It has the largest public library in Europe.

Cluedo was invented in Birmingham in 1943, by Anthony E. Pratt.

It is the youngest city in Europe with almost 40 per cent of the population being made up of under 25's. This is largely due to the 5 Universities.

Perry Barr was home to the world’s first ever ODEON cinema in 1930, standing for Oscar Deutsch Entertains Our Nation.

Thomas the Tank Engine was invented in Birmingham by Wilbert Vere Awdry who was reverend at St Nicholas’ Church in Kings Norton.

The Star City entertainment complex has the UK’s largest cinema. It has no less than 30 screens, six of which are dedicated to Asian films, making it the biggest Bollywood cinema centre in Europe. Star City also houses the UK’s largest casino, with 40 gaming tables.

I fancy we might get another win, with the likely takeover in the offing, players will want to impress. Let's hope so.

On the player front, Elder was involved in Australia game, didn't play, but was on the bench on Wednesday night, so to travel back having flown to Auss and back might be a bit much for him. But who you play instead, or go 352, is the question. The latter is unlikely as we know, but with Coyle and Fleming out, so maybe he will have to play.

I don't think Elder has played a minute for Australia since they first called him up three international breaks ago. Seems weird to me that they'd reward his form with a callup but then never give him a chance to play.

He did come on for the last 30 minutes in the last international break in one game.

Edit: It was against China when they were 3-0 up.

He’s had one cap, came on as sub a few weeks ago. But you’re right, he just sat on the bench during this latest break.

I've got a lot of affection for Birmingham, I studied for my Masters Degree there and remember those days with such deep joy. So many lovely, lovely memories...

I hope we smash the feckers by at least 4-0

I remember going to see City v Birmingham at St Andrew's in the 90's, being 2-1 up when the ball goes into City's box, Greg Abbott tries to clear it, raises his arms to protect himself as Chris Whyte was punching him in the head & the ref gives a penalty to Birmingham!!!!!! Ended 2-2.

For this reason we need 5-3-2. Magennis might be earning his corn defending set pieces. Please dont waste a space on wilks at the moment. He's nowhere near giving 100%
