If that's true and the decision was already made, why announce it last night rather than this morning. It makes no difference to the recruitment of a new Head Coach
I think it makes a difference to Farke's ability to say goodbye to the squad.

From some of the articles yesterday, none of the first team are expected to return to training before Friday, and some may be leaving very soon for international duty. The England U21s play Thursday for example. Once the team bus back from Brentford got back to Colney, it wouldn't have been easy to get the squad all together quickly.

There must have been a seriously weird atmosphere on the coach.

I was thinking about the timing of the sacking yesterday and you may be right about worry over leaks. If we're going after a replacement who is currently coaching somewhere then negotiations would have to take place with that club which means a lot of people would be aware of it. I would hope SW gave Daniel a heads up in the last few weeks that a change was coming.

I think from all the reports, it took Farke by surprise. Squad didn't know either, although Hanley was told before the rest of the squad. Not clear if he knew before Farke.

As someone mentioned elsewhere, I don't think the team and manager put in the performance they did Vs Brentford if they knew a change was coming.

Kind of amazed this thread hasn't had a run-out for Smith yet, given performances last season.

...and given performances this season.

11 months in, two transfer windows, playing at a lower level, and zero cohesiveness. Coventry (H) in September...can anyone name another convincing performance under Smith. even the Watford (A) game last season we were clinging on before the first goal.

The blame for this can't be put solely on the lack of a LB, and Hayden's injury.

And yet it can be placed at the feet of one man.

Worrying that he seems to be suggesting the performances in the 6 wins were good, rather than seeing a 9 game trend?

I guess if you were to look at the stats from the games most would show that we dominated possession and had more shots that the opposition, beyond that a lot is down to individual errors for goals and individuals poor passing to not create a chance or poor finishing to not take a chance

Definitely more of a 9 game trend. When you have not been playing well , but are still grinding out results, most supporters will have been appeased in spite of the football on offer having been far from entertaining. No amount of stats will convince them otherwise.

I can't stand Smith but I would rather let him suffer and quit than pay 2 managers contracts off
