Have I got this right? Liz Truss threatens the French, saying they've got 48 hours to resolve the fishing dispute, or else. Next thing, Jersey issues 49 new licences to French boats, effectively caving in.

My understanding is they are temporary licences, like others that have been issued to some French boats to give them time to "find" evidence that they have ever fished in the waters around Jersey. It just buys everyone time, which seems sensible

Perhaps we should all stop buying stuff from China.

They banned Huawei from this country, so that's a start. Also US, Canada, NZ, Australia, Japan, Germany and many others limiting their use of the Chinese kit. It's years ahead of what we're using in it's place, Nokia and Ericsson, and they can't keep up with demand.

Very difficult to stop buying other stuff fron there, especially raw materials, as the market price is undercut massively by the Chinese.

En route to COP26 - trees and branches affected by climate change have slowed our rail journey - tho the branches have been cleared we are doen to 5mph - What an irony! What a message!
We MUST change!
Dare we hope that we shall?

I can see that coming if China doesn't revise its practices. Although per individual, the US is apparently twice as wasteful, so let's start there

Come on goldie. Even i know that society is
too selfish for that.

You only need to see the rush for sales, people shopping at the likes of primark. When has anyone ever paid more for something that is cheaper (providing its the same quality).

Unfortunately that's just society in general.

UKs co2 levels down 45% sine 1990
sounds very good
was 1990 a particularly bad year for emmisions

I remember the days when the French burned our sheep, blockaded their ports, stuffed up ferry terminals with their lorries etc. Where was the Europhile outcry then?

I heard today that we'd granted fishing licences to 98% of French vessels that applied and were able to demonstrate that they qualified for such a licence. I'm not quite sure why 2% were declined. I'm also not sure whether this is entirely true or is the root cause of the French boeuf.

Frankly, I want our Brexit negotiators and UK officials to be tough. Is anybody prepared to admit that it remains a possibility - just a possibility, mind - that it might be the French that are being unreasonable in this instance?

Why is it that, just as soon as there's a problem with our European neighbours, the default position is to assume the Brits are playing unfair?

We've even got Os out of his bath chair and crying War!

What's a "bath chair" Uber? I haven't had a a bathtub in over 20 years, and then we used it to fill it with ice to keep the driinks for the parties cold, but not the chairs, Norway' cold enough already for that! So you think the chances of war in Europe are receding?! Very optimistic!

My mother in law famously announced last Christmas that she was never buying anything from China again.

With absolutely impeccable timing the Amazon delivery man knocked on the door as soon as she had said that.

We were at the dinner table and everyone was quiet as she opened it, thinking the same thing.

"I bet that's from China". I said, verbalising what we were all thinking.

She turned over the label of her new jumper very slowly to read very slowly "made in China".

:emoticon-0102-bigsm No doubt less funny on text but the timing was amazing and we were all in tears laughing.

I have tried to buy less from China and less from Amazon but it is difficult.

I recycle what I can, have the heating turned down (much the the wifes chagrin), minimal lighting in the house, mostly LED, we don't eat beef, don't have the TV on standby at night. Unwanted clothing is either taken to charity shop or put in charity bins. Can't do much about the car as the mileage I do makes it a no-goer to go electric, although thinking of hybrid for next vehicle which may help me get the range I need. Anything else I can do to help?
Cycle!

Actually, a large part of the younger generation being socially aware have punished companies found to using Indian sweat shops etc. We aren't there yet, but if there are one or two recalcitrant countries taking inadequate steps on climate change, I could see no-buy campaigns

Biden has agreed to drop tariffs on steel exports from the EU. That should be a boost to our steel producers. Oh, wait a minute...

Cop 26 seems a lot of private jets ... Get rid of the monarchy when Lizzie ll dies. King Charles iii is a mentalist!
