I understand your frustration, people moan at China … who whilst should be doing more, but they won’t factor in that China is now the manufacturer for the world. People shout hypocrite at a sniff of anyone trying to be proactive to make changes, noticed it at the weekend with Greta, who is at cop26. Calls of well how did she get there!! The answer is by train, but the point is she, with her public profile has empowered many others to make changes and has raised environmental issues like no other in the public and political world, so doing a huge amount of good, yet she’s mocked and attacked by a lot of people, it’s quite frankly bizarre. Had one bloke on faceache saying he respects David Attenborough and what he says but Greta is talking nonsense and he won’t listen to the likes of her… despite the message being the same.
So taking the knee causes divide and is part of the problem? Latest on Zaha who doesn’t take the knee https://www.skysports.com/football/...abuse-on-social-media-after-win-over-man-city
Climate change is a concern, I agree. We all have to do our bit, rich and poor, big nation and small. It's going to be an uphill struggle to move the likes of India and China. The US must lead the way, and I dread the return of Trump in that respect.
If you're not saying that, then you must be saying that taking the knee is pointless because it's not stopping any racial abuse. And this I agree with. Social media companies need to do more to close the racists down and probably send a report to the police.
Or I could be suggesting that people saying that taking the knee causes these reactions aren’t correct.
People are mostly indifferent to the knee. It's simply anodyne now, and does nothing positive imo. A deep set racist is not going to be concerned whether their target takes the knee or not. There are far greater deep seated prejudices at play.
Have I got this right? Liz Truss threatens the French, saying they've got 48 hours to resolve the fishing dispute, or else. Next thing, Jersey issues 49 new licences to French boats, effectively caving in.
Fair play Stroller, accepted. I think the majority of people are fully aware of how serious it is and playing their part in however small a way. I just don't like being lectured by those who can afford to do as they please as Bonny Prince Charlie does with regularity...
Driving back home from up north, passed some dignitary/leader in their lovely, plush electric car....surrounded by at least six police squad cars and numerous bikes, which I'd be shocked if they were electric....it's all show. The "Great and Good" staying at Gleneagles are getting their cars charged using diesel generators as there's not enough charging facilities at the hotel .... Anger as generators moved across Scotland to power electric vehicles carrying VIPs to COP26 Large external generators will be transported across Scotland to power electric vehicles carrying dignitaries to a world climate change event in Glasgow. https://www.thecourier.co.uk/fp/pol...wer-electric-vehicles-carrying-vips-to-cop26/
Yeah, I get that there's a lot of hypocritical behaviour surrounding the climate issue, I just don't think that people should use that as an excuse not to bother to modify their own behaviour in whatever ways they can to reduce carbon emissions.
I recycle what I can, have the heating turned down (much the the wifes chagrin), minimal lighting in the house, mostly LED, we don't eat beef, don't have the TV on standby at night. Unwanted clothing is either taken to charity shop or put in charity bins. Can't do much about the car as the mileage I do makes it a no-goer to go electric, although thinking of hybrid for next vehicle which may help me get the range I need. Anything else I can do to help?
