    I never said you were.

They're just clogging up the forum like Hayden in central midfield.

this isn’t the Mackem board where we act like sensitive children and ban people in case they may one day make us cry.

I agree. Anyone who wants to ban me is just a pretentious little swine. God forbid, anyone outside of Newcastle should have an opinion on your football club. <doh>

Wasn't there someone on here who was a massive Hayden fan? Kept getting stats out to prove why he was good?

A perfect example of the failings of stats.

Stats really are all a load of crap in most cases.

It's the TV companies and commentators we've got to thank for that.

They just want to create talking points and arguing.

Yep just another example of TV brainwashing. They've convinced some folk that the only way to judge people is by their stats. We were given two miraculous creations, much more complex than any statistical gathering tool, much more accurate. They're called your ****ing eyes! I don't mind stats, particularly in confirming what your eyes are telling you. It could be something to draw you towards a certain player to investigate for transfer. You still need to watch them. Plus stats are nice to check out as part of the overall football experience. I just struggle with the whole blinkered approach.

Moneyball is a great film and a great concept. Football isn't baseball though and there are many more moving parts. So you undoubtedly adopt some of the concept but there are limits.

As you say the TV execs have their own narrative, and their use of stats amongst many other things helps funnel us all towards it.

Although if I had eyes like Mandy I'd probably rely on stats a little more...

Jesus I watched a Sky panel talk about Bruce the other day. Proper dumb ****s, every last one. No idea what they were even trying to articulate, it was pathetic in truth. The Scottish one they employ, Boyd said and I quote "At the end of the day, Steve Bruce is a human being, there's no doubt about it."

    Top analysis lads.
